:yuck::yuck:I just opened 2 boxes of Kraft dinner boiled it & was set to strain when I noticed something amiss.. There were bugs in my KD!! EWWWWWW

lil tiny tiny ones NASTY!! The KD had all lil holes it in:yuck: These things have been living off my KD and OMG my hubby just found them in cereal as well.

both items that we dont use all that often.

All items are coming outa cupboards & its being bleached.

After closer inspection it looks like most of my pasta (brandnew unopened has them as well):yell:

bendy do you know what they are? & how do I get them gone????

I have to throw out 11bags of various pasta shells + a whole case of KD & about 6 boxes of cereal. & who knows what else these thinsg lived off of.

Anyone give ideas on how to rid my cupboards of these???

:frustrated::yell::wall::wall::wall:

While I'm no expert, sounds like meal worms. The only way to keep them from getting into your stuff is to put it in sealed containers - at least the stuff you don't use quickly. I keep my pasta in an airtight container, and things like cereal I take the inner liner out of the box and put it in a plastic sealable bag, then I put it back in the box.

After the freak-out I googled too

I think they are weevils :yell: Everything from my rice's to my pasta's to my 10lb bag of flour (unopened) is infestied.:wall: cereals as well basically my entire pantry.

GROSS!! Hubby is taken the chore on of bleaching the cupboards & throwing it all out. (he doesnt want me to stand on counter)

Were they soft-bodies pale coloured larvae? or hard-bodied dark-coloured "bugs"?

We had those once . In the wild rice we bought from costco. I oppened the plastic container and I noticed that some of the brown rice was moving :eek::eek::eek:

Luckily though it was just in that container and it was a screw top, so I threw it out. It definately came in the rice as nothing else was infested and there was no entry in to the container (screw top, no opening). It probably came in one of your foods and then went to everything else.

Sucks all that food had to go to waste. Hopefully u got all those buggers though! You can pick up glass screw top jars/containers from the dollar store...try storing food in there :thumbs up

yup those look like weevils. It's not bad housekeeping, it's just...well...bugs being bugs :shrug: They're not "dirty" or anything, they're just grain feeders. Pest to keep pasta, grains, flour etc. In sealed plastic or glass containers for now, they'll go away if there's no food available.

January 11th, 2009, 09:24 PM
yeah, what Bendy said. you probably got it from an infested package... give it a few months to a year of using perfectly sealed containers and you can go back to regular kitchen habits (ie not repackaging your cereal when you get it and leaving your pasta in original packages)
