Bad Car Crash on 404 Dogs ran away

January 2nd, 2009, 12:55 AM
Paco and Peanut were riding in the back of my friends car when she was struck by a drunk driver at about 11pm on Dec 30/08. The dogs got scared and ran away. Paco was on a lesh but in terrified state vigourously wiggled free of his collar. I've read on here that some people feel that if a dog is found on the highway he was dumped there. Well this is not the case. My gf and I are hurting very badly right now and her friend that was driving feels nothing but guilt even though it was the fault of a drunk. If theres anyone out there that wants to help us please do. We've called all the places - Vets, SPCA, police, Kennel INN. We've placed flyers in the area we don't know what else to do.

If anyone can help us organize a search and canvas we need the help. The area is huge. The accident happened on the 404 at Elgin Mills. I hope the little guys are warm somewhere.

I'm so sorry this happened :grouphug: Sending lots of  :goodvibes: & :fingerscr that you are reunited w/Paco & Peanut very soon :goodvibes:

What about an ad in the local paper?

January 2nd, 2009, 01:03 AM
Yes. I tried calling today not realizing what day it was "new years day". I will be calling the toronto paper, local markam paper and the chinese language newspaper.

January 2nd, 2009, 08:13 AM
Oh, what a dreadful way to start the year

I certainly hope that no one was hurt in the crash and that the driver is being pursued to the fullest extent of the law for their bad choice of driving :yell::yell::yell:

So this is the 404 in Ontario near Markam, right?

January 2nd, 2009, 09:12 AM
awwwww hoping the little guys are found.

check as well at

That is responsible for the papers serving yorkregion.

January 2nd, 2009, 09:41 AM
My biggest fear is an accident with my dogs in the car  What an awful thing for your friend and you :grouphug:

I'm not near the area but wish you the best of luck in your search. :fingerscr they are found soon.

January 2nd, 2009, 09:49 AM
Lesson learned for everyone else. If something good can come out of this please crate your dogs in the car.

January 2nd, 2009, 09:52 AM
Try posting on for Toronto..I have had a lot of help from this site.
Also don't underestimate the distance a little dog can the other day got about 10 miles north of where he went missing and was found in a barn in just a couple of days.
Hoping for the return of these little guys real soon.

January 2nd, 2009, 11:59 AM

Also send this out to every vet office and humane society/shelter. Call, email fax etc.. the details. Offer a reward and make sure you state that.

I would do as much of Ont are you could cause if someone picked them up near the hwy they could travel with them a long way.

(((HUGS))) I am sorry you are having to deal with this!

January 2nd, 2009, 02:40 PM
:goodvibes:That they are found and returned.

January 2nd, 2009, 03:26 PM

January 2nd, 2009, 06:22 PM
If you haven't already list them on

January 3rd, 2009, 10:52 AM
 I really hope that you find your 2 dogs. Check out a lost ad and also search for any found dogs. Also, look at
I know how it hurts to lose a dog..I am still looking for my own. I look at lost and found websites everydog looking for my own dog that has been missing since March, so I will keep an eye open for your 2 dogs.

January 3rd, 2009, 07:29 PM
PacoandPeanut...There is a dog in the north region Animal Shelter that like one of yours. Here's the picture,%27TRNT%27,%27TRNT2%27,%27 TRNT3%27,%27TRNT4%27,%27TRNT5%27&atype=&where=type_DOG

Good luck...I know the heartbreak of losing a dog, our Billie has been missing for over 1 year.

January 3rd, 2009, 07:43 PM
Thanks for posting that picture. Unfortunately that isn't Paco. Paco doesn't have any brown on him except for his paws. We tried tracking them for the last two days and it seems he's moving north heading towards Stoffville. Please keep the posts of lost dog pics coming. I've been checking everything I can imagine as well. We think the old man (Paco) is out there and working his way back up to Newmarket.

January 4th, 2009, 01:53 PM
We went out looking again today with no luck. We have a new plan to try to get the local tv stations involved. If we can get enough people to call the local tv stations they may run the story (we hope).

My gf Danielle Cohen has created a facebook group. Called

Please help me find my dogs!

If we can get enough people to join this group and have them call the local tv stations I'm hoping we can get them to run a story. We are looking for new ideas too. Please keep posting pics of lost dogs that you find in the area. We still have hope.

Thankyou to everyone from both of us.

January 4th, 2009, 03:45 PM
PacoandPeanut,,I would contact the Toronto Star and the Sun,after all, they are missing because of a drunk driver.
City TV is usually interested in this kind of story too.
I am just really concerned about their small size and the cold weather,:pray:that someone has taken them indoors.
Would they stick together,is Peanut a small puppy??

January 4th, 2009, 05:25 PM
Chico - Peanut looks real young to me.

You mentioned that you thought Paco was headed towards Stoufville, might be a good idea to place a lost dog report with Georgina Animal Control, they handle Animal Control for Stoufville. The Newmarket OSPCA handles it for Markham. My daughter works for the Newmarket branch, I will get her to check if they have heard anything when she goes to work tomorrow.

As far as TV stations - "A" channel from Barrie also do a lot of reporting for the area and it is watched by many as it has a lot of local news. I believe they have an outlet in Aurora.

January 5th, 2009, 09:36 AM
PacoandPeanut - I was looking at the THS site this morning and someone has a posting for a found puppy between Kennedy and Brimley in Scarborough. I know it is a real long shot, they say they are not posting more details due to the circumstances of where and how the dog was found.

The website ID# is 243.

January 5th, 2009, 09:40 AM
Could you post a link to this page. I'm having trouble navigating to it.

January 5th, 2009, 09:45 AM
Here is the link P&P:

It is the same site where you posted Peanut and Paco as missing, it is the first post on the page.

My daughter is going to check at the OSPCA when she gets there around lunchtime, maybe they will have some news for you.

January 5th, 2009, 11:07 AM
Thankyou for the link. I just called its a girl so its not my guy. Please keep the sitings coming though. I'm following up on anything no matter how remote of a chance.

January 5th, 2009, 02:33 PM
P&P - My daughter called me, unfortunately your little guys are not at the OSPCA in Newmarket. She did mention that the East side of the 404 is Markham and the West side is Richnmond Hill as far as Animal Control is concerned.

She also asked if you had contacted the Ministry of Transport, Highways' Dept to see if they know anything

I did notice that you have not posted on, which is another lost and found site.

Have you had any leads at all? Also did you notice in which direction your pups went when they ran.

 for their quick return.

January 5th, 2009, 04:30 PM
Ok I'm on canadianstrays now. No news yet except that we hired a pet detective with a tracking dog and she was able to pick up Paco's trail heading in an Eastward direction from the 404. He's a tough little man so he could be quite a distance from there now. Also the scent dog was able to find every dead carcass in the field we were looking in and thankfully none of them were our boys. I guess I have to make that scary phonecall to the ministry to see if they have passed on.

January 7th, 2009, 11:30 AM
I was hoping you had some news. Anything

January 7th, 2009, 03:59 PM
I'm checking all the sites 3 times a day. We've been circulating flyers to all of the vets in the phone book. A friend at work is trying to get us on the local news we'll see how that goes. I called the MTO and they haven't picked up any little dogs in that area so I'm pretty sure they are out there. I wish someone would bring them in and claim their reward. I'd pay up to $1000/dog and they can go and buy their own puppies with that. We want our boys to come home. As always suggestions and ideas are always welcome.

January 7th, 2009, 06:13 PM
I just read your post and I am very sorry for the awful start to the new year you guys are haveing. I will keep cheacking sites for you and the hubby is always up that way and he will keep a eye out as well!!!! Best of luck to you guys!!! :grouphug:

January 7th, 2009, 11:30 PM
Prayers and positive thoughts on the way that these two precious dogs are found safe and sound.

January 7th, 2009, 11:48 PM
More prayers and good wishes for a safe and happy ending. :fingerscr :goodvibes:

Do you think that Paco and Peanut would stay together? :fingerscr

So happy to hear that the MTO had no bad news for you. Did you check with the Georgina Animal Shelter that handles Stoufville's Animal Control?

January 8th, 2009, 11:11 AM
Why don't you try sending their pictures and your story to CityTV and see if they'll air it for you. If someone on the highway picked them up, they may not live anywhere around where you've got your adds and flyers.

January 8th, 2009, 12:45 PM
i went on and put in the postal code for the gave me a few rescues that may know something regarding your dogs. Its a long shot , but maybe they can lead you to other contacts....good luck.

January 8th, 2009, 03:28 PM
Try CP24 Animal calls. Can't remeber when they are on but I am sure they will air your story

January 8th, 2009, 04:40 PM
Thanks for that list of shelters. I've just finished sending off 200 emails to them all. We may be on Achannel in the next couple of days. A friend at work pushed really hard for them to run our story. Fingers crossed.

January 8th, 2009, 04:44 PM
Please let us know, when you know what day it will be shown.:fingerscr

January 11th, 2009, 02:36 PM
Hi, I'm not sure where you are located but check out this link that was posted on the Vancouver CL in the last few days. Someone spotted two dogs on a highway in Squamish.

January 12th, 2009, 12:16 PM
I just heard the interview that was done on CFRB..hope it helps to bring these little guys back home. I wish more radio/tv stations could be as compassionate as they just were your story.
Good Luck and hope someone heard your plea.

January 12th, 2009, 03:02 PM

January 12th, 2009, 04:04 PM
thanks Aco. I always get the reruns in the middle of the night. But it is a helpful program. May help the OP

January 16th, 2009, 03:39 PM
Hey I saw an ad about these lost dogs outside of the Starbucks at Major Mack and woodbine and felt terrible. I told my friends and mom about the dogs. I don't know if it's the same dogs as the one I saw in the ad, but either way, I hope that you find them very soon.

January 20th, 2009, 04:17 PM
Thank you everyone for your support. I am glad to hear that people heard the message on the radio. I was a little dissaponted that right after while i was on the phone they said the weather is not good for those types of dogs. But I am still happy that they gave me the time. We still have heard nothing on the lost boys. They are missed very much.

To the person who read the flyer in the plaza... yes it is the same dogs. We are not giving up. The search will still continue.

Thanks again to everyone.

January 20th, 2009, 04:27 PM
Pacoand Peanut,I was hoping that the large reward would bring people forward,if they have either one of the dogs.
But still, don't ever give up hope:pray:

You have heard nothing???No sightings or anything??
I soooo:pray:those little ones are safe somewhere and that you'll soon get a phonecall

February 7th, 2009, 10:58 PM

February 7th, 2009, 11:53 PM
I've been wondering the same thing. :fingerscr :goodvibes:
