It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Here's the stockings. One for each of my nephews and me as well as one for the cats and Dracko.

Here's a few ornaments from the tree up close.

My mother collected pigs and last year I bought this one in remembrance of her to put on my tree.

And while I took the above shot I noticed something else in the tree. :D

These 3 ceramic ornaments were made by my ex's son and I a few years ago. At the time I had Teddy, Mochie and Dracko. My ex's son made the one for Mochie so it's nice to have now that I'm not in the relationship anymore. I guess I need to get the art supplies out and make some for Teiya, Kinsey, Smitty and Ginkgo.

This was Smitty trying to help me roll up the ribbon.

And look what I found under the tree. :p

Here's the almost finished product. I didn't have the candy canes on it yet. Not sure what else but it's the last picture I took. I'll have to see if it's still upright when I get up in the morning. The topper is unbreakable. Had to get something like that cuz the cats would knock the tree over a handful of times each year. It had bells on it and they had to go last year as Smitty would hear them if someone was moving the tree around and go nuts to get up to the top and attack them.

It's beautiful! Great mental images about why you had to remove the bells! And I love all the furred ornaments on and around the tree! :cloud9:

I love Christmas stuff, but Brier is in is 'eat anything' stage, so we're not going to do much decorating this year... :o

:laughing::laughing: The cat peering out from the pig ornament. That's a classic.

GREAT tree, very pretty. It's nice to have ornaments with meaning. Makes the decorating so much more fun.

The stockings are cute too. How many nephews do you have?

Great pictures. LOL, I'd love to put a tree up, but I just know I'd be picking it up off the floor every day when I come home form work.

diandpat - I have 3 nephews in total. The 2 of them who live with me are 24 and 22. They moved in with me when they turned 15 (the legal age at that time to leave home). The oldest one lived in NFLD for a couple years but moved back to Saskatchewan earlier this year. I told him he could move in with me.

The younger one was living on his own but when my ex and I broke up (December 2006) I asked him to move in with me as I travel a lot for work and as a result need someone here to take care of the furry ones when I'm gone.

I'm basically mom to the boys and the one they wish Happy Mother's Day to, come to for advise, loans :o, etc. They are really good boys, very responsible and love the animals. The deal we have is one of them has to stay until Dracko isn't around anymore. ;) I might be able to manage with the cats alone for a few days when I'm on the road but obviously not a dog. And, the boys knew from the first day they lived with me that I could handle them wrecking my car, damaging the house, etc...BUT allow something to happen to one of the animals and they were dead meat. :p

ancientgirl - Last year I did secure the tree to the wall but decided to see what happens this year. Got up this morning and it's still standing. I can tell they were rooting around in it as it's a bit messed up and some of the ribbon is off, but otherwise it's in good shape. :thumbs up

Maybe this coming weekend I can give it a try. I can always put it in between the wall and my console table which I have against the wall. At least if I see them going in I can squirt them with water and they might loose interest. I really miss not having a tree up.

In my previous house where I had hardwood in the room I put the tree I used to duct tape it down. :D Duct tape doesn't stick to carpet, though. Trust me, I've tried. ;)

What I suggest is when you put it up DO NOT decorate it right away. Guaranteed they will be all over it checking it out initially and you'll get sick of redecorating it. I've pretty much learned to leave it bare for a bit so they can explore before adding any decoration.

Maybe then, I'll put it out tonight undecorated. I'll let them get used to it for a few days bare. Maybe I can start adding a few things here and there in the middle of the week too until it's all decorated.

And I typically put the more dangly ornaments up higher. I find if they are lower they stand there and bat them around.

Thanks, that makes sense.

I haven't attempted a tree this year yet but hubby is making sounds. He says it's not Christmas without a tree. So.............. I have to find a spot. Where the tree usually goes is filled with a new-to-me hutch and the kitties sleeping crate. Guess it will have to come down.
Your tree and stockings are very nice. :thumbs up
