Hi. I'm a Pets Forum newby. We currently have a cat :cat: who's absolutely lovely, but we're strongly considering bringing a new pup :dog: into the fold. Which breeds are considered cat-friendly and how do you recommend we handle the transition?

Welcome to pets.ca!
Where are you thinking of getting the pup from? If you contact a local rescue, they often have dogs in foster situations and can usually tell you if a dog is good with cats or not. http://www.petfinder.com/adopt.html
As well, there is some info here on how to do introductions and keep the peace: http://www.labadoption.org/linkpages/DogBehave/Articles/Cats.pdf
How old is your cat? Has s/he been around dogs before?

No advice, but I wanted to welcome you to the board. We will, of course, need pics of both your cat and the new dog when it arrives. :D We're nosy that way. :o
Welcome to the board and good luck with your introductions! :goodvibes:

Which breeds are considered cat-friendly
It's not so much the breed , but the dog. Some like cats , some others don't. Some dogs have a high prey drive , some others don't. Dealing with a rescue would be better , they could tell you if the dog you're interested in is ok with cats as many foster families have multi pets households.
Also , if your cat never been with a dog , and runs from him/her , there's a chance that the dog will chase it. It's just natural for them.
