Guarding the Hazel Run Mama

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 09:57 PM
It was mid-morning at Hazel Run and the Hazel Run Pack was hoping the Hazel Run Mama was ready to go outside.
44078
"You ready to play, yet, Mom?"

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:02 PM
The Hazel Run Mama had to get her coat first. Of course it is the primary duty of the Hazel Run Pack to guard their Humans at all times, so the HRM was escorted down the hall...
44079
...to the family room...
44080
...where she retrieved her coat off its hook.

And then, of course, to stay safe she needed an escort back down the hall to the front door.
44081
"You still behind me, Mom?"

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:06 PM
There was the usual pile-up at the inner door...
44082

...and then at the storm door...
44083

...and then FINALLY they were out on the deck!
44084

But now the HRM was out of sight! She wasn't in the yard. She wasn't on the deck.

Where did she go?!

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:12 PM
44085
"Mom! What are you doing back inside?!"

"Just getting some water for you, dears. Be patient."

44086
"Whew! Here she comes!

44087
"There ya go--fresh water!"

"Yum!" For a while the only sound was of tongues merrily lapping up water.

"Wait a minute!" barked King Ember. "NOW where did Mom go?!"

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:17 PM
"Mom, are you back in the house again?!"
44088
"Yes, dears. Just refilling the pitcher...

"...and now that I'm done, I have to take care of the bird feeders."

"Cool, Mom! We'll come guard you while you do that!"
44089

So off the deck they ran...
44090
...and over to the shed to get some seed.

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:22 PM
44091
"Come this way, Mom! It's safe!"

44092
"Can't we come in, too, Mom?"

"Nope, I'll be right out."

King Ember checked out the path to the side gate.
44093
"All's safe here, too, Mom! Come on down!"

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:27 PM
The Hazel Run Mama walked to the gate, unlocked it and carried her bucket of seeds outside the fence.

"Hey, wait a minute! How can we guard you if you're out there and we're in here?!"
44094
"Come back inside the fence, Mom!"

"Let me finish filling these feeders, then I'll be back in."

44095
"Finally! Here she comes!"

"Dawg! Is she hard to keep track of! I'm pooped!" grumbled Sheriff Cole to King Ember.

hazelrunpack
November 10th, 2008, 10:35 PM
The Hazel Run Mama walked the empty bucket back to the shed and put it away, then turned toward the house.

"Good! It looks like she's going in! I need a nap!" barked the King.

The Pack thundered up on the deck and waited patiently at the door to be let in.

"In you go!" called the Hazel Run Mama. "Time for naps!"

There was a conveniently situated patch of sunlight on the dining room floor. Soon it was filled with dogs settling in for a snooze.
44096
"Now don't you go running off on us while we're sleeping, Mom," cautioned Amazing Grace.
"Cuz you can't go anywhere without us guarding you!"

The Hazel Run Mama feels very safe. :D

The End

 You wouldn't say that if you were tripping over them all your waking hours!

But if it makes them happy to 'escort' us, who are we to argue? :D

Oh Hazel, great 8-doggies report and your amazing 8-doggies morning..
I sometimes stumble over 3 cats,especially feeding-time,8 beautiful dogs,can't imagine:laughing:
Your house is probably 3 times larger than my little hut though...
It's funny the way they watch when you go inside,my cats do the same, even if we go inside for 5 seconds, their faces will be plastered to the patio-door.
Beautiful,beautiful puppers:lovestruck:

All that guarding does make you feel safe though, doesn't it? Unless they're swarming around your legs or rushing ahead of you as you're going down the stairs  . Note to self: install some handrails for the stairs to the basement :o.

Lovely pics and story, HRP. As always, I enjoy them immensely.

Beautiful as alway 'Silky' :cloud9:

:frustrated: That you have no sympathy for me, remember Dial-Up

hazelrunpack
November 11th, 2008, 12:39 PM
Yep...they watch us everywhere we go...and get under foot...and insist on lying down behind you when you're not paying attention... But we definitely do feel safe from Sinister Does and Dangerous Butterflies and other Villainous Varmints around the neighborhood!

My one consolation about burglars is that the Pack would at least slow them down by getting in the way and saying hello.

Okay, so I have orders for more Cerberus (rainbow), 8 dogs in the bathroom (rainbow) rainbow, you're getting mighty demanding! :p and more Ember (growler)... Anyone else wanna make a request? :p

I hear ya. I deleted my temp internet files last night and now I can't see the pics in my own threads! Sorry, kiddo... :o I guess you and I just have to cultivate more patience...or just learn to do more housework while pics are downloading... :yuck:

Wow, just think how clean my house would be if I actually did that!

If I actually thought that would work I'd go back to dial-up.

hazelrunpack
November 11th, 2008, 01:16 PM
Don't do it, rainbow! We can attest to the fact that even dial-up does not make housework seem like a good thing!

Then you'll have to send me Cerberus so he can help with mine to make it more fun. :D

Once again a wonderful story! It is so great knowing you are guarded wherever you go. I have that too. Just a smaller version. They still trip you up!! :cloud9::cloud9:

November 11th, 2008, 03:16 PM
Whew, we were all so worried about you out in boonyland. Good to know that you are so well protected :D. I love that first pic of the faces staring up at you :lovestruck:.

Do you notice that your popularity also increases closer to feeding times . We get much more popular here with both the kitties and the pups the closer we get to the feeding times .

hazelrunpack
November 11th, 2008, 04:15 PM
Yes, that feeling of being guarded 24/7 is priceless! :cloud9: Unfortunately, if they're behind me when they perceive a 'danger' in front of me, I have to penalize them 15 yards for clipping as they go by

And yes, Teri, we're much more popular at meal times--theirs and ours! They have that sad-eyed, woe-is-me-I'm-so-hungry look down pat!

LOL, those are some great escorts!

Is that a filtered water pitcher? I have one for my gang too.:D I love it.

We have five :o Takes the copper out of the water. Evidently our aquifer runs through a copper deposit  so we (us and the dogs) use filtered water for drinking and for cooking. Not that the dogs do much cooking, of course :p but they do seem to enjoy hazel's :D

We have pretty good water filtration here in Miami, but the pipes in my building are old and I don't trust the water being clean running through that, at least not clean enough to drink.

I'm really pleased to be able to give them water I know is nice and clean.:D I'm happy I happened to see the one I got on sale and it's so much better than dragging cases of bottled water, and better for the environment.

Cheaper than bottled water, too, despite the cost of the filters--which makes it nice, too! :D

Hazel , you may want to look at filtration system that you could hook up under your sink , some of them are not expensive (filters too) when it's only for smell and taste , they're usually affordable. For bacterias it's much more expensive. :frustrated:

Great pics , been there but only with 4 :p and I can tell you that 4 goldens fit in my bathroom

the pack seem to love their momma sooo much , don't even want to stay outside while she's inside :cloud9:

hazelrunpack
November 11th, 2008, 09:57 PM
We've looked at the under-sink unit--if I'm remembering right, it doesn't filter out enough copper. I wish we could fix it by treating the water--it's acidic, which helps mobilize the copper--but the water has too much copper in it as it comes into the house. Making the water less acidic will not remove the copper, just keep the water from picking even more copper up from the pipes. :frustrated:
