Here's my boy Flurry at 11 months. It seems that he has finally grown into those huge snowshoe feet of his!

Wow, he really has grown! He's super handsome, and a big boy now :D Do you know how much he weighs or how tall he is? It's hard to get size ideas from pictures :D

Gail P

He is 24" at the withers but still "butt high" and was 57.8 pounds last time he was weighed (about a month or two ago at the vets). I don't have pics of him beside Storm, but here he is with his "big" sister Rain, who is only about 45 pounds

Do you do agility w/Flurry? That boy's got a long stride when he runs - he'd be great at the relay jumps :thumbs up

Although he's big, it still looks like he's just starting to grow out of the gangly stage...I predict he still has a bit of growing-into-those-legs to go :D.

All your babies are adorable :cloud9:.

Nova might be a little scared of Flurry  She gets nervous around large dogs even though I keep introducing her to them. Nova is at the other end - 18 inches and 25 lbs. Flurry next to her would look gigantic

He has a really nice looking running stride. I wish I could watch him run, he must be fast with those long legs! :cloud9:

Yeah, he'd seem like a monster next to little Nova. He even seems huge beside Rain. If you ever travel northwards at all you can watch him run. The plan is for my daughter to race him in a 2-mile youth class at the Haliburton Dogsled Derby in mid-February. He'll be teamed up with Lightning and Lightning will also be running in the 4-mile 4-dog class for me, teamed with Rain, Storm and Thunder. If Haliburton's too far for you, you may be able to see Flurry run at the Cannington race one week later. I'm not sure if Cannington allows youths to enter their novice/sportsman 2-dog class, but if they do my daughter will also race him there. That will be the extent of his racing for this year, although we will also be going to 2 or 3 other races for me to compete, and my daughter to enter kid & mutt classes with Lightning (no other 1 or 2 mile youth classes available).

Yeah, I suspect he's not quite done yet, though he's lost a lot of the gangliness in the last few months.

All your babies are adorable :cloud9:.

Thank you! I think so too and make sure they know it :lovestruck:

I don't think I'll get a chance to come up north this year unfortunately, I still don't drive yet. But I'm hoping next year I'll have that liscence :) I really want to do some travelling around to different dog sport events to take photos for fun and practice, and of course, enjoy watching others compete.

Good luck in all your races this winter! It sounds like so much excitement and fun :D

I don't, I haven't even tried to teach him any agility yet though I might. If I can make the time. I've taken him to sheep a few times to get started with some herding training and I'll likely end up working him as a goose control dog once he's got more training. Plus of course there's the sled training, and I plan to do some disc trials with him next year. I take Rain and Storm to the sheep for herding each week too and will hopefully be working for the township next year doing goose control. All these dogs keep me pretty busy even though I'm home all day with them. I'd like to spend more time on the agililty with Lightning and start some of the others as well (Thunder does a little but not much and I haven't really worked at it), but there's just so many hours in the day and unfortunately I'm also dealing with a frozen shoulder that makes everything so much harder right now. Some day I'd love to take some flyball lessons if time and funds would permit. I have enough dogs for my own team right here and I even bought a flyball box and jumps a few years ago.

Thanks! I had an MRI done back in Sept. and have started physio while waiting for an appointment with a shoulder specialist in Toronto (who will decide if I need surgery). Was told that it could take 6-9 months to get the appointment so I'm hoping the physio will help to keep me somewhat mobile over the winter. Would hate to have to miss out on this season's dogsledding, it being the first year I've got a full team ready to race. Previously I've only been able to enter a couple of 2-dog 2-mile novice/sportsman classes.

hazelrunpack - I will try to post more often. I actually have a few more recent ones that I haven't yet uploaded to photobucket. I'm on dial-up so it's slow going and I get fed up with it sometimes. I will try to do better :fingerscr

Is there a physiotherapist there that does Gunn IMS (intramuscular stimulation) using acupuncture needles (a technique used to release chronic muscle tone and to restore fluid movement patterns)?

My cat & another member TeriM's dog have been going to a physiotherapist that employs this type of physio & it works really well, it is also used on people too.

I'm not sure. I know my physiotherapist does acupuncture, but I'm not sure about Gunn IMS, I've never heard of it before. I'll have to ask her, I'm actually leaving in about 5 minutes for an appointment. Thanks for the heads up about it.

Flash is a little wary of everything  it's just his nature. "you want to trim my nails  !" Run and hide under the bed. "you want to brush me?" Run and hide under the bed. "you want me to pull a sled?:eek::eek:" Funny, he'll skijor with my daughter, but no way will he pull a sled. He would slip his harness or let himself get dragged by the neckline first (not that I'd let that happen) Yet if I unhook him and let him run loose, he will fall right into place as if he is part of the team and run in front of the sled  He's our shy, stay-at-home boy for the most part.

Thing is, the other dogs have a blast sledding, they don't view it as work. Lightning goes totally crazy when I start getting stuff ready especially when the sled comes out. I think Flash may be worried about getting crowded or bumped by the others. Oh well, at least my daughter has fun skijoring with him around home and on nearby lakes and trails, she'll just never be able to race him, he'd have a meltdown at a race. Poor guy, it's too bad he gets uptight about stuff.
