What a bad day... attacked by stallions

October 13th, 2008, 09:43 AM
OMG, what a bad day yesterday turned out to be.

Started off on a ride, all was going well, had 2 people along with me on quads (4 wheelers) for the company.
All was going wonderful.
My new horse rides like a dream
Well a good 3 miles down the road with cars passing us, Beauty not flinching nothing was making this a bad day.

Then a moron on a racing 4 wheeler goes by, but just as he is beside us, he GUNS it! Now, racing bikes are NOT quiet at all.
Obviously this spooks Beauty, we are now off on a full out gallop. No big deal, I'm working on getting her back from her scare when the saddle starts sliding off to the right.

Well needless to say, just as she was slowing down there was no way I could hang on to her mane anymore and shift off the saddle that is now completely sideways, so I end up gathering some air miles ( yes I wiped out... gracefully mind you)

No big deal, get up walk up to Beauty and grab for her reigns.

Shes part way up a driveway where there are 2 other horses. They break out!
They were held in by one small line of electric fencing and thats all!
We had no idea at this point that they were stallions.
Beauty tears off as they both come running straight for her biting and being VERY aggressive.
Now she is on a mission to get home as fast as she can. With all her tack on, saddle under her belly by the point I lost sight of her.

These insane stallions were hot on her heels.

My friends who were following me on the quads take off after them.

This is where I am running off of what people are telling me happened as they just tore off after the horses leaving me at the house ( where no one is home)

A neighbor had seen this whole thing unfolding in his truck and took off with them to stop the horses, or at least traffic until they made it back home.

Over the next almost 2 hours, I am walking back. And now they all realize that these are stallions that they are dealing with.
They easily enough manage to get them all locked up in Beauty's paddock but they are beating the **** out of her.
They pull Beauty out to get the saddle off of her, and just as the saddle broke loose the stallions ran straight through the fence for her.

One of them ended up running through 3 strands of barbed wire ( cutting himself pretty good) another electric fence and somehow ending up in another pasture with other horses.
The people who own those horses somehow round him up and lock him in their barn.
Now I am almost there, and someone sees me walking so they send another girl who i have no idea who she is to come pick me up.

When I get there, somehow they had managed to tie the bigger stallion to a hydro pole and my mare was standing close by him to keep him settled.
Now the cops show up as the entire community called them as the wild horses were running around on the roads.
He's useless. Takes some statements of what happened and leaves.
The stallion breaks loose just as he leaves. Great!
Now there are 11 people, one crazy stallion and my tired mare wanting nothing to do with him. Shes rearing and kicking him, I'm trying to hold on to her so she doesn't take off running again.
Half an hour of this ( and me almost losing my pants) they have him tied again.
We lead Beauty down to the barn where the other crazy boy is to get this one locked up in a stall.
It works, but not with out incident.
After over 3 hours ( if not 4) we have everything under control. Walk Beauty back to her barn, put her in a stall and check her over.
She has a few good bruises from kicks, and several bleeding bite wounds.

All in all she's alright, those boys on the other hand are NOT. They're both bruised up BADLY as Beauty would just keep kicking and kicking them, one is cut up and all 3 are beat tired.

The owners as of right now are still not home. Must be gone for the long weekend???
There is so much property damage from them running through fences and digging up lawns its not even funny

Thankfully, and most importantly, no one was hurt. Just one nasty chain of events that all seemed to start because I wanted to go for a ride.

This by far is my WORST experience ever with horses. Everyone kept asking me after all was said and done, If it scared me off of horses.
It hasn't, when I went down, the people behind me on the quads said that as soon as I went on to her side just as I fell, she did a side step away from me ( thanks girl)
I now am even more terrified of stallions though. They can be WILD when a mare comes by.
We honestly thought they were gelded, I mean these people have just the 2 of them in a really weak fenced area.
What a day... I'd be really happy if I never encountered a situation like that again.

October 13th, 2008, 09:52 AM

wow a seriously bad day!

your poor mare glad she is ok. & and you too.

:grouphug::grouphug: Lots od hugs to you & beauty

October 13th, 2008, 09:59 AM
People keep telling me I am lucky my mare is still alive, apparently 2 stallions on her like that would kill her eventually :o

the day could have been so much worse, many many people could have been hurt.
In a way its almost a good thing that the quad idiot spooked her and i fell off, those boys would have come out no matter if she stepped in their driveway or not.

They saw a girl and were heading out for her no matter what!

I'm thankful in a way it was me, not the people that live down the road from these stallions, I mean they have kids, kids ride horses as much as adults do. What if they would have rode by them?

So many "would have, could have" 's keep running through my mind, I had a hard time sleeping last night.

Now I'm off to see my 2 crazy horses here, no matter what they act like now, nothing horse related can possibly scare me more than yesterday did.

I am terrified of those 2 stallions, I want to head out to the barn where Beauty is shortly and walk her around a bit. Shes in a stall and needs to move around.

I want to go see how the psycho's are too, but I dont ever want to see those 2 horses again. The looks in their eyes yesterday haunt me.

Why someone would have 2 stallions like that is beyond me. I'm sure they are wonderful when no other horses are around but unfortunately this was indeed going to happen sooner or later.
Even though I hate those 2 horses right now, I hope they are ok.
I hope that their owner comes home soon too... and fixes things up at his barn so they never escape like that again. Or GELDS THEM!

October 13th, 2008, 10:04 AM
I wonder how the owners of the stallions will react when they arrive home to see what has happened.

I don't know anything about horses, but isn't it kinda irresponsible to leave two ungelded stallions unattended in a poorly secure area?

I hope they won't try to make you pay for damages.

October 13th, 2008, 10:07 AM
I really don't see how they can make me pay, I mean it would have to go to civil court and I was out on a ride, nothing illegal about that, and when they did break out of their pasture, I had my horse.
I'm not going to hold on to her while 2 stallions are attacking her, and even if I wanted to she bolted!
My only option really once they had gotten out was being dragged 3 miles and killed.

October 13th, 2008, 10:42 AM
That sounds terrifying!!!

I'm glad you and Beauty are okay :grouphug:

Keep us updated on what happens with the owners when they return.

October 13th, 2008, 02:45 PM
Oh, crap, erykah! :grouphug: What a terrifying day!! I'm glad everyone is all right--but I do hope the owners of the stallions take responsibility for the breakout and damages!

How stiff are you today from your fall? And how was Beauty today? :grouphug:

October 13th, 2008, 03:43 PM
I don't think they could sue you, I think it would be the other way around.

October 13th, 2008, 04:16 PM
OMG Erykah, what a horrifying experience,I am sooo ignorant about horses,I did not even know horses could get that aggressive.
I am sure you'll have nightmares for a while.
I hope your girl will be ok,she might be terrified now too, just like a dog would if he was attacked:shrug:
I too hope the other two will be ok,I guess they did what any not fixed(gelded?)stallion would do and the owners should have known that:evil:
They are in no position to sue anyone, but they might get sued for damages.
do you need a vet for Beauty?
What a birthday you had:sad:

October 13th, 2008, 04:52 PM
OMG, what a day you had! I am glad it didn't turn out as bad as it could have.

October 13th, 2008, 04:52 PM
Well, here's the update.

Turns out the owner of the stallions IS an amazing man, he took full responsibility for everything, and when we left the barn from trying to help load his crazies, he was doing a damage control check and pricing stuff out.
The horses are vaccinated, so no worries for disease spread, and he is gelding the larger stallion and selling the little one ( he has had a lot of problems with him actually)

Beauty is doing GREAT, shes here now, I had a whole support system here to bring her as I was terrified of a repeat of yesterday. Mares act so much different.
Shes not right in with Venna and Fay but they are side by side. Ven is more than willing to snif over the fence and say hi, Fay is unsure but not aggressive at all!

I took some pics but have to head out for dinner right now, will post them before I hit the hay tonight.

October 13th, 2008, 05:45 PM
OMG that's amazing and terrifying ! I'm glad that you are okay and that Beauty seems to be okay too besides the injuries. I guess it could have been a lot worse -- the poor thing !!

October 13th, 2008, 06:35 PM
Holy crap, Erykah. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I'm glad you and everyone are okay and that the owner is taking all responsibity as he should. :thumbs up

Glad that Beauty is okay too and sounds like the introductions with Venna and Fay will go well. :goodvibes:

Enjoy your birthday supper.

October 13th, 2008, 07:20 PM
Well, I'm back and stuffed now! But it feels so great!

Here's my pictures of Beauty as promised. ( Her name since a filly was Beauty, the other people that I purchased her from called her Flicka which is a special name to me as well, so I think we will be calling her Flicka Beauty to honor both names that suit her so well)

Here she is my mostly Canadian horse. ( Dad pure Canadian, mom 3/4 Canadian 1/4 Percheron)

Lookit her beautiful tail! It almost touches the ground

You can see in her eyes how soft of a horse she is

*more to come photobucket is being SLOW as molasses in February

October 13th, 2008, 07:24 PM
Alright here we go

October 13th, 2008, 07:27 PM
Rottielover!!! This one here is a bareback girl too just FYI for next year ;)
Fully broke to ride and drive and a champ at bareback with no bit or bridle, all she needs is bailing twine on her halter and away you go!

October 13th, 2008, 08:08 PM
Yeah I have my bareback horse... I am so excited :)
fast forwards to next year...
Are you sick of me yet?? LOL

October 13th, 2008, 08:13 PM
But she rides like a dream once you get her going ;) and away from stallions :(

October 13th, 2008, 08:22 PM
Goodie, I get to go back again :)

Do you think she would be a good horse to lead Kayla on ?
With Harley tied up, lol

October 13th, 2008, 08:26 PM
Where I purchased her from the 2 kids would hop on her back in the paddock and sit there and she would walk around her paddock with them so gently.

She's going to be an excellent horse. Already is, imagine with some mileage on her!

October 13th, 2008, 08:26 PM
wow that must have been sooo scary. So sorry u had to go through this. Im glas the owner was so good about it tho :thumbs up

did I miss something? when did u get beauty? Or is this ure formal announcement of her? so now u have 3 horses? hehehe just like pringles huh :p In any case, she's gorgeous :lovestruck: congrats!!!

October 13th, 2008, 08:30 PM
Just got her here today, but was working on it yesterday lol
YES just like pringles, good way to put it...
One thing though, all my birthday presents were horse related, funny, no body ever baught me dog things before ????

October 13th, 2008, 08:34 PM
That's an understatement - you could have been killed or seriously hurt. Beauty suits her as she is one.

October 13th, 2008, 08:35 PM

I guess horse things are more expensive? And maybe need replacement more often? I have no idea. Also, I think some things are just must haves for horses..u will need this and this etc..but for a dog, so much is up to personal preference......

im just making this up, hahaha.

What did u get? :D

and Happy happy birhtday :party::D:D

October 13th, 2008, 08:36 PM
wait so she knew to run home (her new one) even tho it was her first day? what a smart horse!

October 13th, 2008, 08:42 PM
NO she ran back to her old one. We were only 3 miles away from it

Jim Hall
October 13th, 2008, 10:00 PM

October 13th, 2008, 10:14 PM
especially not at 4 years old!
Shes just a youngin still imagine her in a few more years when she is "mature"

October 13th, 2008, 11:50 PM
Oh, erykah. She's beautiful. :flirt: You're acquiring quite a stable. :D

October 14th, 2008, 12:00 AM
She is gorgeous....I love the third pic. :lovestruck:

October 14th, 2008, 12:35 AM
She's gorgeous :lovestruck:

I'm sorry you had such a rough ride :grouphug: glad everything is working out okay though :)

October 14th, 2008, 05:50 AM
thank god you and your mare are ok, I've seen two stallions almost kill a mare, they are very aggressive, odd that the owners had two stallions in one paddock?? Hopefully they'll learn from what happened

October 14th, 2008, 07:03 AM
Erykah,I was expecting to see the other mare, did not expect a new one,but she is beautiful,by the way,her name Flicka, means girl in Swedish.
I am so glad,as I am sure you are,the owner turned out to be a responsible man, also that you and the horses are ok:thumbs up

October 14th, 2008, 05:35 PM
Erykah, she is a BEAUTY!:lovestruck::lovestruck: thank god that everything worked out ok. It must have been terrifying! I hope that Beauty will not have any future fobias related to this incident...

October 14th, 2008, 05:57 PM
I just took her for a walk by the road, ( i'm more scared than she is)
I wasnt thinking though, she was on high alert since she doesnt know where she is again.
So we went back to the paddock, shes definately testing me lol. She has been spoiled rotten for the last little bit ( 3 months) so she's testing me.
We did some good ground work in her paddock then I went into Fay and Venna's side and worked with them a bit.
Poor Beauty, just wants to be friends with them.
She came over to the fence line once I was done with Fay and Ven and put her head down shaking it from side to side then lifting it a bit by her "knees" nodding "Yes"
Fay pinned her ears and turned her back to her. Fay's not ready yet
So poor Flicka Beauty reached across the fence line and tried to scratch Fays bum for her... Fay didn't kick, but she walked away and farted LOL

Maybe tommorow Beauty, maybe tomorrow.
She did manage to nibble Vennas bum to scratch her, Ven is all about scratches so she was find with it.

October 14th, 2008, 11:42 PM
Aw, that's sweet how Beauty wants to be friends. I'm sure Fay will come around. She's just letting Beauty know who was there first! :D

I'm relieved that Beauty doesn't seem to have any lasting damage. :grouphug:

October 14th, 2008, 11:56 PM
So poor Flicka Beauty reached across the fence line and tried to scratch Fays bum for her... Fay didn't kick, but she walked away and farted LOL

But once they are all feeling the good vibes at erykah's house then they will end up being good buds. :thumbs up

October 17th, 2008, 11:48 PM
She is so pretty!

It's been a long time since I have been on a horse but I use to love riding.

I'm so glad that u and Beauty are ok, that sounds terrifying. I have been on a run away horse a few times but never one that was being chased by freakin stallions!!! *shudder*

I'm glad the owner is going to take care of the damage and take care of his horses too!

October 18th, 2008, 09:00 AM
Wow, what a story. I am so glad that no one was hurt. Beauty certainly is a beauty. :lovestruck:

Glad the owner of the stallions turned out to be a good person, so often that is not the case!

October 18th, 2008, 09:39 AM
There is still hope that some people can be responsible thankfully.

I really feel bad for this guy, he was new to horses and no one ever said that 2 stallions was a bad idea.
I mean, ignorance is bliss right? But I dont think he was being ignorant, more so just didn't know.

Up until last weekend I had no idea that stallions should have specialized fencing ( but if I owned any I would have done it either way as I do know what stallions are like when they get something in their head... freight trains full throttle with no driver to put it lightly)

I am thinking of stopping by his place today to see how they are healing, they were both really cut up. That and I am nosy and am wondering what happened with the smaller psycho one.

October 18th, 2008, 09:38 PM
If you do stop in, keep us posted! I was wondering how they were doing, too--especially the one that ran into the barbed wire!

Is Beauty pretty much recovered now? :fingerscr

October 20th, 2008, 10:48 AM
Oh, I'm so glad to hear everyone is all right.

Your girl is well named. I'm a former horse fanatic and even before I saw the writing I was thinking Canadian. The breed I'm going to raise when I win the lottery. :)

I used to ride an Arabian stallion. A real sweetheart who I once showed in a class with an in-season mare in the same class. He was such a good boy and perfectly controllable in even that highly excitable situation. He was sold to a private owner at age 7 and the woman had him gelded. At age 7 it was very, very hard on him. One night another stallion broke out of the barn and attacked Tangier and nearly killed him. I think I have good idea of just how lucky you and your mare were.

Who keeps two stallions together in the same field? What is the breeding on them?

October 20th, 2008, 03:52 PM
THe small psycho one was Arabian/Quarter horse cross and larger boy who I had first hand experience with was... uhh.... I forget, I'm thinking Morgan for some reason but thats NOT what he was...
What the hey was he?

I forget, as soon as i remember I'll post it.:o

October 20th, 2008, 03:53 PM
He is a thoroughbred ;)

October 22nd, 2008, 03:45 AM
Ahem....seriously, more pictures of Beauty pleeeaseeeeee...

October 22nd, 2008, 03:48 AM
Erykah, did you stop by the guy's place to see how his horses are?

October 22nd, 2008, 04:56 PM
No I havent gone there, I really am scared of those horses.
However, the people who ended up doing an emergency board of them and some of the others have talked to the guy and tell me they are doing good.
He still has the 2 of them.
Not sure whats going on with that.
Perhaps soon enough I will work up enough courage to face those horses. I think it would be in my best interest anyways.
To see them "normal" not crazy in love.

October 22nd, 2008, 07:43 PM
To see them "normal" not crazy in love.

And that will make all the difference! :grouphug: Guys and their hormones! :o
