Eating before blood tests?

First, please excuse my poor English. My usaal language is French.
This forum has helped me a lot for my cat who was very sick, for a while.
The advices we received were very helpful.
Our cat seems to be in a very good shape, now, but our vet recommended a "follow-up" blood test to make sure that everything is ok.
3 of the 4 blood test were very good, but the one for pancreatis disease turned out very abnormal.
Since we were not told to prevent te cat from eating, before the tests, that makes me very suspicious of its validity. Once gain, I must state that ou cat is very active, eats very well its new diet food, does'nt vomit, sleeps well, etc.
Now our vet asks for a new blood test ($$$) without any food for 12 hours. I think that's what he should have asked on the previous test. But he says NO; it was normal not to ask that.
What do other cat owners think of this?

I think it's standard practice in most situations to have a fasting blood test (8-12 hrs with no food). That's what my vet has always done.
