September 23rd, 2008, 06:12 PM

A08-1748 patch tabby Female (in the litterbox) named her 'Peaches'.
A08-1625 brown female tabby with silver named Kiki
B08-356 white and grey siamese tux mix named her "Georgia"

Already spayed, vaccinated, chipped, combo tested, dewormed and flea treated :D
KiKi and Georgia

Pulled from kill shelters in Georgia. I believe they came from Spalding County Animal Control. 5 day reclaim/adoption then they are euthanized. This particular shelter uses carbon monoxide gas chambers.

It's a horribly bad shelter.....

The rescue I worked with is called Winging Cat Rescue. They are fantastic! They pull hundreds of cats and kittens every year and are just really awesome and hard working people.

more pictures after I get a shower and settle in. Being on the road all day yesterday and all day today.

OMG, a gas chamber! That's beyond cruel.

What sweet little kitties you have now though. You're an angel for going to rescue them.

oooh I looove Miss Georgia! such a pretty colour
sorry, I missed the lead up to this post... why are you in Georgia? Are you fostering these kitties? Either way, good work and beautiful kittens!

Aw man, I shouldn't have looked at the first link, 'last chance dogs'. That's just too depressing .

Thanks for helping those kitties kathryn.

I went there to visit family and since I drove (my mother drove actually.. i only have my permit) I just emailed the rescue and was like.. hey gimmie some kittens and we worked out the details about 2 months ago and so I just met up with a nice lady from the rescue on the day I was leaving and picked them up.

Luckypenny, they generally get them out of there. There is a whole forum that works it all out and pulls as many as they can.

The euth rate for this shelter was 80%++ before the rescues stepped in. Now it's 40% (2005) and dropping because the rescues have pulled basically every animal they could to save them.

Sadly, they can not pull feral cats and they are gassed.

More pics when I find my camera cord. I forget where I put it with all my luggage :loser:

Middle left and bottom right are mine. The rescue lady is digging up the poster for the other one.

I posted an ad on Craigslist for them and people are bashing me already  This makes me feel like such an idiot. People are even saying stuff about the shelter I volunteer for when they don't even have anything to do with it other then they get the adoption fee from the kittens.

Why are people so mean????

September 23rd, 2008, 09:24 PM
That sucks that people are being mean. It may be a little unconventional but you should make a facebook group for your fosters. Spcas and foster parents in my area have been doing that for the last year and I have heard it's been a great success. Once you invite friends and family to the group you can encourage them to invite others. Best of all you can delete bashers :D .

Oh and your not an idiot! Your great because you saved the kitties and your trying to find them a furever home ! That makes you cool in my book :thumbs up

bad picture but that's them at the hotel.

I just hate how nothing is going right for me lately. No matter what I would have done lately someone would have been not happy or upset.

For the 5 kittens that ended up in my neighbors yard (long story don't ask if you don't already know) I could have left them alone and then what? Or I could put the burden on my grandmother to take care of them while I'm away AND ask the shelter to take in 5 more. No matter what, someone was going to get the bad end of the deal and I was going to be like..... the dealer. ??

I could have emailed WCR and told them oh sorry, can't take them anymore. Then I would have just been ANOTHER rescue/transport that backed out on them. But I chose to take them on the advice from an employee from the AWA that we could just deal with it later.

So it's like, not matter what I do it's wrong.

trying to save everyone and it's not working :yell:

That sucks your stressed  I hope everything will work out :grouphug:

Kathryn... you can't save them all. You are a young girl. You are going to drive yourself crazy trying to. You just can't.

Together we can make a big dent though. We can start spreading the word wherever and whenever we can. We can tell people they need to start fixing their cats/dogs. We can give them statistics. We can send them to the web sites you keep giving us to look at. We can post those sites on places like Craig's List and say to the bashers.. "This is why I do it. What have you done lately?" We can tell people to stop dumping unwanted kittens/cats/dogs/pups wherever they feel the little ones "might" find a home. We can, we can!!!

:grouphug: to you for all you do to help these little ones. You are an amazing young lady!!

I don't look at those sites btw because it's too painful and I deal with enough. Most of us here do.

Your new fosters are beautiful, Kathryn, just like you are!

Yesterday I was able to trap two ferals. One mommy and her baby. Mixed feelings - one I am pleased that I can stop the cycle of future kittens being born in this unforgiving society, and then the reality that here the shelters do not save or give a chance to the ferals. I understand, but it still does not sit right with me. All last night I tried very desperately to find an alternative...and as luck would have it - I found one.

Thank you for saving these lives. I cannot imagine that the gas chamber still exists in this time of age.
