Cody and agility fun

I have to split my photos into two posts again, I always take tons in one sitting. However on Sunday, the main photographer was my sister since I was working the dogs on the agility equipment.

Cody absolutely loves to do agility for me, unfortunately he wasn't feeling his best on the weekend, he had an upset tummy (found a bunch of rotten pairs from our neighbours tree) but he still had lots of fun, and spent a lot of time just resting in the shade watching Nova and I play.

We still managed to get some good agility action pictures, I hope we can do this again soon - it was a lot of fun! But also a lot of work since I had to carry and set everything up by myself (My sister claims to have helped by carrying three jumps.. lol)

Cody at the top of the teeter, just before he pushed it down.

Looking up after tipping the teeter, he was barking at us, lol.

Doing his weave poles - he loves them! Always looks straight ahead in concentration :)

Nova looks like she hasn't even noticed the black dog bolting towards the teeter from behind her. Lol

Nova just couldn't stay out of the limelight eh? Little ham! ;) I love the picture of her chasing Cody over the jump... so cute! She wants to be just like big brother!

Looks like Cody's showing Nova how it's done. :D He looks great. Are you using an SLR? I wish I could get such great action shots like this.

Yeah, I just got an SLR recently - makes taking dog pictures a lot easier, thats for sure

Cody really loves doing agility, but I don't think we'll ever make it to competition level. Really for a few reasons, reason 1 being I get way too nervous and it sets Cody off because he's very sensitive to me, and #2, Cody likes to knock jump bars - continually, all the time. He's only jumping 16" and still likes to plow through them. Yet he has no trouble flying over the babygate in our house or the lane dividers at flyball practice

For whatever reason I feel a lot more relaxed at Flyball, probably because its a team effort and the focus is not on me running around with my dog. I'm hoping in the future I'll be able to put my nerves and fears aside to be able to go compete. Cody is just too sensitive and with his fear of strangers it would really make for too much stress for both of us.

Cody is just happy doing agility for fun with me, no stress, no pressure, at his own speed. It's a great bonding time for us :cloud9:

No wonder. I didn't think those could come from a digital. Even when I put mine on the action button I still get blurry pictures.

I think it's great you are able to do that agility with them, even if it's just for fun! Not everything has to be a competition. After all, I'm sure they don't care if they win or lose or who they beat, they just want to have fun and they are doing that with you. And like you said, it's bonding time so it's all good.:D

Most definitely :D Competition is for the humans only, since only people put such an emphasis on winning. Dogs don't understand it. If it makes the human nervous, the dog won't have fun. It's always my idea that dog sports should be for the dogs fun and enjoyment. It's a way to stimulate their mind, get them exercise along with bonding time. It makes getting them to sleep at night easier! Some people are very serious about competition, I'm not one of them.

Yet he has no trouble flying over the babygate

 Sounds just like Penny. SHe manages to jump up vertically over them without even a running start .

I think it's fantastic you do this with Cody and Nova :thumbs up. WHere do you get all the equipment? I've seen 'kits' at some pet supply stores but they seem a pretty shabby quality.

Everything but the sawhorses and tunnels I constructed myself. Lots of PVC, Wood, Paint, Glue, and Tape :D I plan on making a few more things in the spring, since by then Nova will be a year old and can start some more serious training :cloud9:
