scol September 10th, 2008, 11:53 PM Hi to everyone,
I know there's a lot of Montreal members so please read this link. Cats are being taken from the alleys around the city, by two young men with a white van.

I know the ad mentions certain areas of Montreal but please just be careful. If they have a van they can go anywhere. And if we could try to keep an eye on things, even if our own cats are safe. There's so many unprotected, and it's just so sad.
I've already mentioned this in my intro but I wanted to post here in the general forums, where it won't be missed.
Thanks and hope your cats will stay safe!
badger September 11th, 2008, 12:41 AM OMG do you know if the police have tracked these people down? Did someone witness a cat being snatched and was quick enough to get the license plate?
I think it's the right thing to do, to post here, and I thank you. But it would be criminal if the authorities weren't working on this actively. Owner beware, yes. But what about the strays!?!?
Do you know anything more?
I'm going to post this information in my neighbourhood.
Love4himies September 11th, 2008, 06:27 AM :grouphug:I don't know the areas of Montreal at all, but do you think they may have something to do with Coco and Ollie's disappearance ?
badger September 11th, 2008, 07:40 AM Who knows , those neighbourhoods are all close by.
The police should be seizing the van and battering their door down. But since letting your cats run free is technically against the law, they have an out.
Donut, anyone?
Love4himies September 11th, 2008, 08:55 AM So sad, Badger, I hope your kitties are safe in somebody's home. :grouphug:
scol September 11th, 2008, 09:22 AM Hi Badger,
All the witnessed attempts I know of were in Mile End and Outremont, so I don't know if this could have anything to do with Coco and Ollie. I really hope not. The police and SPCA have been informed and they might now have a license number. Here's the text from a message I received this morning.
"Cat owners: 2 young guys (white, about 20+ years old, 5’8 – 5’9 proportional weight, 1 no hairs with cap, athletic, kangaroo, French speaking) are abducting cats in the alleys between 12 and 4AM, in the Plateau, Mile-end, St-Michel, Outremont and +. They have a white Van (Ford, E-250, License Plate FBW 5605?, no logo, windows only in the back and driver level). If you have witnessed them in action, please take their picture, license number and contact your local police station asap."
I too worry for the strays. Before this all happened a neighbor on the alley told me there weren't any more strays on our block, but she said she'd found homes for a lot. Now I wonder.
Please check the shelters though, before you panic about Coco and Ollie.
14+kitties September 11th, 2008, 09:28 AM I am sending some special :pray:ers for Coco and Ollie badger. I hope they haven't been included in this. :grouphug:
What a rotten thing! I hope they catch those guys soon but you know if they do they will only get a slap on the wrist. Who knows, they may even get a commendation for helping to clean up the cat problem.

Which could be cleaned up if the city offered a low cost spay/neuter clinic :frustrated: rather than this way :evil::mad:
Frenchy September 11th, 2008, 11:17 AM I don't think I want to know what the heck they do with the cats ....
Now that they have the license plate , I'm hoping something will be done ! :frustrated:
scol September 12th, 2008, 10:05 PM I don't know what they're doing with the cats but I have some thoughts, and they aren't pretty. Tonight walking home I didn't see a single cat out. It was reassuring to know that people are reacting but also disturbing. I haven't heard any media coverage but I know the SPCA seem to be taking it seriously and have called people who've lost their cats to inform them of what's going on.
My 3 cats are outdoor strays that I took in. I started by giving them curfew again. I'd been giving them freedom to come and go to release the pressure of the not so popular new one. I started to feel too uncomfortable and have kept them in all day today. They're not taking it well and I'm not sure when it'll feel safe again.
