Keeper fights back

In case you hadn't read the other thread, Keeper had a Grade 2 Mast cancer tumour - skin cancer - removed a week ago.

She will have an operation to remove her lymph nodes for biopsy on Sept. 24. If those are clean, then she has a statistical 44% chance of surviving another four years. If they are cancerous as well, the diagnosis is pretty serious.

However, all of that didn't stop intrepid Keeper from climbing high, high and higher into the snow in the Rockies this morning.

Below, Keeper is swathed in clouds and snow in this high altitude place, even as the valley below her is green in the sunshine.

Beautiful photos of very happy dogs!:) Keeper is doing what all animals do: they live each and every moment to the fullest, not worrying about what tomorrow will bring and certainly not feeling sorry for themselves. We humans should learn from them. Hope the biopsy turns out just fine:fingerscr:goodvibes:

Oh my :eek: I missed that thread - that is so scary, :fingerscr for a clean biopsy.

Leave it to a golden to climb a mountain between surgeries! :clown:

Rick , there is hope. My Sam was given 2-6 months to live last December , he's still alive and is still not sick from his cancer. Just has a hard time getting up because of the size of the tumor. Keeper is so fit and healthy , she can beat this !!! :grouphug:

Thank you for your solicitations regarding Keeper.

I'm actually running a half-marathon in Canmore, Alberta Sunday morning and another half-marathon in Banff a few days before I leave for Africa. So Amsterdam will be the third in about six weeks when it finally comes around.

Hopefully sub two hours for each (the Banff course is actually half a km longer than a normal half) but, hey, who's going to shoot an old codger if that doesn't happen? I've run four others already this year.

But, getting some higher altitude acclimatization - along with running a couple of half-marathons at altitude - should help. Canmore and Banff are about 4,500 feet to 5,000 feet on the courses. The pictures in this thread are probably at about 6,500 feet.

Still peanuts compared to the 19,340 feet of Kilimanjaro but every little bit helps.

I'll be taking a picture of Keeper, Abby, Carol and the cats to the top (hopefully) and photograph them next to the summit sign.

Hopefully we'll know the news about Keeper by then.

The wolf is amazing.

I'd love to say that's a wolf because that would have made my day but 1) I don't think wolves bark at their prey and 2) there's a fire watch station up there and I think the dog belongs to whomever might be up there.

Makes for a great story - with a picture - though!!!
