Cat Pregnancy Issue

My cat recently (three weeks ago) became sick. She was throwing up and what not. I had no money to take her to a vet but I was able to take her to an emergency hospital and they took a look at her. They said she was merely going to go into labor soon. Also, the vet there did a sonogram and told me she should have 5 or 6 kittens. She ended up having three, one of which was stillborn. I was wondering if it's possible that she still has a kitten or two inside of her? She didn't get but so small after having the kittens like her sister did and I still felt lumps that felt like it could be kittens. To stop you before you waste time responding...don't tell me I shouldn't have cats if I can't afford to take them to the vet and the adult cats are both getting spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned. The kittens, unfortunately, will all have to go to the local SPCA.

Well this is a public forum so you are bound to get public opinions. But seeing as you know that you shouldn't be adding to the overpopulation already... yes it is very possible for there to be kittens still inside her, and it is also possible that without a vet, they could cause complications and kill her as well. If there is no way for you to get her proper care, I would surrender her and the kittens to the SPCA where she might get the care she needs asap.

The same thing happened with one of my ferals, she had 4 kittens, 2 one day and 2 more 3 days later, all of the kittens died in the first 2 weeks despite vet help, and miraculously mama cat was ok and spayed as soon as was possible.

 and :goodvibes: for your kitty.

Yes actually that does happen and they have to do an emergency spay or your cat could die. You need to take her to get X-Rays to see if there is anything left inside of her. If not then you're in the clear. If there is a kitten in there hopefully they can just spay her and the kitten didn't get stuck anywhere else.

Sorry but I dunno why it takes people until AFTER the cat gets pregnant and whatnot to want to spay/neuter. I work in a shelter and I was taking messages one day and some lady called the clinic and was like.. yeah I need my cat spayed *pause*... and I'd like to donate some kittens to you.

It's much cheaper and easier in the long run to spay/neuter asap!

This is a pro spay/neuter board. I understand if this was a cat that you took in and was pregnant at the time, but there is no excuse if she wasn't. As you are going to find out, it would have been much cheaper to have her spayed/neutered at 5-6 months of age.

As others have stated, yes it is possible to have dead kittens still inside of her and yes she could die. My advice, like the others, is to take her back to the vet today to have her checked.

Take your cat to the vet asap please. This is a life threatening issue.

Thank you for all of your replies. She had two more kittens yesterday (almost two weeks after the first 3). They were stillborn but she seems to be doing okay now.

You've still got to take her to the vet. She could hemorrhage or die from infection. Since the still born kittens were inside of her for that long there is a good chance she could have an infection starting up from that. Make sure you get her spayed once she is done nursing and the milk dries up, aprx 6 weeks from the date of birth.

Does your vet offer a payment plan?? Your cat needs to get to the vet ASAP as everyone said her life could be in danger.

Good luck and I really hope she is ok
