Boxer Dog Scratching

Hi everyone. I was watching a program the other night about pedigree dogs. On the program there was some Cavalier dogs suffering from a problem called syringomyelia. The dogs were scratching or at least trying to scratch themselves and were being driven mad in doing so.
My eldest Boxer Dog - Buster is doing the same thing but is very mild in comparison with these cavaliers.
My vet told me that is ears had slight inflamation inside and gave me some ear drops to give him. This went on for ages and he has calmed down alot but he is still doing it.

After watching the program i am convinced Buster has got Syringomyelia?
Does anyone know if Boxers can suffer with this propblem?
I am going to take him to a different vets to get a second opinion.

scratching could be anything... allergies, mites, fleas, minor skin irritation, or something more serious. Have you gotten a 2nd opinion from a different vet? Has your vet been able to rule out the comon causes of continuous scratching?

Yes my vet has gone through all of the normal causes of scratching. he's not actually scratching himself he is Air scratching so is going through the motions of sratching but not actually touching himself.
I will be taking him for a second opinion this week.
