Cat Cold?

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long a cat cold lasts?

A week ago my kitten (he's 3 months) started sleeping more and not playing, then he started sneezing and watery eyes. For a few days he was barely eating, but always drank water. He had like one day of constipation, but is back using the litter box.

Now, he's eating wet food. I have forced fed him some kibble. He's not sneezing as much, but i can tell he still has some congestion in his nose. He still sleeps, and doesn't play (though he is walking around more) and his eyes have pretty well cleared up. He appears to be on the mend. But I'm wondering how long until he's back to his old self.

Please dont tell me to take him to the vet, I am looking into that but am on a limited budget. The meds he would be given would do nothing for the cold itself, and are just to bar against a secondary baterial infection, which i am keeping an eye out for.
He has a runny nose, but its clear, same with his watery eyes.

You could get some L-Lysine powder from a health food store and give him 250mg twice a day in some canned food to start, up to 500mg twice a day for a few days until symptoms subside. Also hanging out with him in the bathroom while a hot shower is running might help him to breath better.

Please don't force-feed him any kibble. He could choke. If he's eating canned food, that's great, that's what he should be eating anyway. Let him eat as much as he wants, maybe try a few different flavours to keep him interested. You could stir in some warm water to make it smell stronger, and add smelly things like low-sodium tuna or salmon juice, or some sardines or dried bonito flakes (aka Kitty Kaviar (http://www.thecatconnection.com/page/TCC/PROD/KITTYKAVIAR_1oz)). What type of canned is it that he eats?
