Yesterday was my birthday and over the usual morning coffee, DH showed me an article in the paper about a shelter nearby that had so many cats and kittens, they were turning away new arrivals. They requested that anyone considering adopting a cat, think about adopting one soon. DH said "what do you think about getting another brother for Katie?" Katie is our 9 year old black and white female who this year lost both her brothers (old age mostly, they were 16+). Ever since if she's not sleeping she's been yowling and crying...the dogs try to play with her but she thinks they're stupid.
Anyway, long story longer I decide a kitten would be a good thing for her and an easy transition into the house. I'll reconcile with the guilt of adopting a baby and not an adult later. After two hours of playing with the cats and kittens, I finally decided on a sweet little grey and white male. Then DH says "are you sure you don't want to check out the older guys again?"
What do we bring home? Diego, a 6-year old black and white male with frostbitten ears. We opened his cage, woke him up (the shelter was afraid he'd be overlooked because he was so "shy"), and when he curled around my hand and started to purr it was love. :lovestruck: He's the sweetest boy, small (Katie's size) and compact. He spent last night in the guest room - had a good poop, dinner, some water, and lay under the bed unless we were in the room with him and he'd come out and purr and rub up against us until we paid him some attention. This morning I opened the door and he chirped hello and came right out for some pats. We cuddled on the bed for a bit.
Katie's been peeking under the door (you can see her eyeball from the other side) and hissing, but nothing major and Diego just ignores the noises. I think today we'll do the switcheroo - Katie in the guest room and Diego with the run of the house.
Will post some pics when he's more comfy. :cloud9:
