I'm soooo sorry my camera decided to be messed up today, I think I got dust in the lens from a desert quad trip, so although I visited SPARE today I did not take any pictures. BUT before anyone kills me  I WILL be visiting again inshAllah and I WILL take pictures!! Im making this thread from now as a promise.

Amina (the president) is still in Alexandria on holiday so I did not meet her today and today's trip came as a bit of a surprise - I was expecting to go monday/tuesday but my mom decided we needed to go out as its such a beautiful and clear day out. I would have arranged to borrow my uncle's cam for the day if it was prearranged.

Anyway to the important stuff!!! OMG. First the dogs, I did not get any one on one time cuz the shelter is quite small and alllllllll the doggies were in the court yard playing. Frenchy, there is a great dane!! As soon as my mom and I walked in they were SOOOOOOO excited jumping up on us, tails a wagging even trying to get my attention by trying to grab my clothes. I have to admit it was quite crazy, although I love dogs, but I was almost knocked down! So many of them for loving. At leaast 50 dogs! At least! And before we went in the courtyard they put the big dogs in the kennels (the dane and other huge breeds) as those surely would knock us over from the excitement. Basically a sea of dogs. Sad but also great cuz they are soooo well taken care of.

Rainbow the shelter staff and the doggy vet knew what kongs were and said they were great :thumbs up I think I gave them 8 in total :)

Chris They were overwhelmed with all the things u sent! "wait those arent tennis balls, theyre for dogs especially!!" and the squeeky monkey hehehe...oh and they LOVED the ropey things ethel made. The kitty toys, everything!!!

I did not get to play with the toys with the cats/dogs this time as they are very organised and were taking note of everything that came in, numbers etc (putting in the books) and then they have to consult with Amina, what to use now, what to store etc. I will be back though soon and hopefully then we can play with the toys.

Now the cats (as I got to spend time with them, u go through the dogs to go 2 them). Omg. beauties!!!! My favourites were Ricko and Tommy, white cats with patches. Ricko immediately climed onto my back and held on to my head and kept head butting my cheeks for love, wouldnt get off when I walked around, just kept purring like mad and licking my scarf. Tommy was also very very very friendly thought they say he has a permenant cold/eye thing they cant treat but isnt contagious? Then there was Dahab (Gold) the little kitten whose littermate Kronba (cabbage) was just adopted. What a SWEETIE :lovestruck: he was ALL over me, he looks a lot like Tiny Tim 14+ and he kept begging me to be picked up. Him and his brother were bottle fed by Amina in her home and the little guy kept trying to suckle my shirt :lovestruck:. There were lotsa orange kitties, one of them is missing an eye and the other is all cloudy, so he is totally blind, but he was sooo friendly gentrly touching me with his paws, trying to make his way to my lap for cuddles.

Within 2 minutes of being in the cat quarters I had at least 15 cats climbing allllll over me (and different ones all over my mom and the keepers), one on each leg, Ricko on my back. It was AMAZING. they are sooooo hungry for attention...their 2 keepers were so awesome they knew allll the kitty names and their likes and dislikes all though there are so many of them. Its greeat too they arent kept in cages at all, they all just chill together and love eachother. There was one kitty who was 3 legged (well 4 legged but one leg missing a paw ) that was run over by the metro (train) but he was stilll happy as can be be :lovestruck:.

One of the puppies called Trouble (mashakels) whose story really touched and hurt me in Canada has been adopted. His tail and rump ( so he couldnt even poop) were chopped off by a cruel and disguisting butcher who then just left him in the street!!! Makes me want to puke. But they fixed him up and he was adopted...YAY!

Anyway again Im so deeply sorry I didnt take pictures but trust me I will go agaiN!

Hi, I'm Clearance! I am quite the charmer around the SPARE shelter because everyone just adores me! I was found in a building and was in excurciating pain because of a horrible irritation in my eyes. Those were some bad times, as the vet had to remove one eye and I could no longer see in my other eye. But hey, don't you feel sorry for me because I'm full of life and my handicap ain't stopping me!
I'm 7 months old, and I looove treats, especially those imported ones! All I ask for is a loving home and some patience because of my inability to see...but once I'm used to your home I will find my way real easy, so don't you worry!

The beautiful Dahab and his now adopted sibling.

SPARE continues to rescue kittens from unspeakable horrors, and they continue to come into the shelter in droves. We cannot refuse any animal that has suffered.

Kronba and Dahab are currently being fostered in Amina's home. She says that Kronba cannot believe her eyes when she is bottle fed or cared for. Dahab on the other hand, just loves to be cuddled all the time!
These animals deserve a good life.

the 3 legged lovebug

Hello there, I'm Nooman. I had quite a traumatizing accident at the subway and lost my right arm. I'm trying to forget what happened because of the excruciating pain I endured...it all just happened so fast.
Luckily a couple rescued me and took me to the SPARE shelter. I'm feeling much better now and I'm focusing on adjusting to my new situation. But what I would love the most is to be adopted by a loving home that will protect me from all the frightful things that happen out on the street. Will you take me in?

Me too 14+!! Their stories are so sad.... and it's so touching to see that there are people who care so much!!! :lovestruck:

On TV, and on Animal Welfare sights you mainly see the stories of how poorly animals are treated in foreign countries, it's really nice to see the other side of the story, that there are folks with big hearts fighting for animals everywhere.

Will for sure send all your thanks!

but awww guys, no please dont be upset. Really it was a happy day, im not upset! I mean yes their stories are sad and they went through bad times but now they are in very good care and I swear none of them even know about their 'handicaps'! You couldnt tell honest!

For example with clearance ancient I had nooo idea he was totally blind. I mean I was playing with him, petting him with one hand while I had Dahab in my lap for belly rubs then I saw his eye was missing so I asked the keeper and he said they had to remove it and yet I still thought he could see from the other eye cuz there he was sitting in the chair next to me, nuzzling me but actually it turned out hes totally blind! He was one of the first ones to greet me,patting my leg gently when I sat on the ground. He was fine with the other cats but if they got too close suddenly he swatted gently...sort of spooked since he isnt expecting it as he cant see but then he's cool again. As I was leaving he had made his way over to the water bowls and was drinking up so I mean you really couldnt tell otherwise. Such a sweety. :lovestruck:

Chris I will for sure keep updating, sometimes I dont have very fast internet access or I dont have the luxory of my own pc and have to share with little bro, dad and mom my dad's laptop. One of the things I had to give up luggage weight wise to take stuff for SPARE was my laptop...my carry on was stuffed with leftover clothes and SPARE things  SOOO worth it tho :thumbs up

Rainbow I know....I was sick to my stomache when I read his story and saw pictures...those are on the website but I didnt post them..too upsetting. Such a teeny cute pup. *shudder*. Some 'people' are just....a disgrace.

This organization seems so wonderful... But the sad stories on the site, oh my...
I was so upset, Sola came to "check on me"! After reading the story about Ringo, the blind dog who spent 14 years in a washroom, I am a mess now, too... At least his story had a better ending than some others

Hey rainbow!

I'm here I'm here! Sorry I didnt check in. My dad and lil bro stayed behind in Sharm as my dad had work to do and after visiting SPARE we didnt really do anything of note (well it was fun just I dont think very interesting for pets.ca-ers, lol). Mainly family bonding, going to egyptian movies, bowling with the cousins, sleepovers, going to the pool and doctors appointments (my mom has started to take insulin for her diabetes after visiting a specialist here - after 4 years of messed up levels - as in always in the double digits- with the family doctor who just gave her more and more pills or made her cry :frustrated:, she finally has it under control :D)

lil bro flew in last night but my dad had to stay behind still for more work  *sigh* Today we are going to one of the clubs (like a social club) for breakfast with my gramma...they have horse stables there and the other day when we were passing thru to go to their pharmacy I saw this beautiful white arabian horse being led by a handler for a stroll. I will try to take pics of the beautiful horses! I'm not sure if they are privately owned or they are for riding to the members of the club? After that we are going to the famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar in the evening - I will be taking pics there for sure :thumbs up

Oh and in other completely unrelated news, I got an email last night that my appliation for TA for a microbiology lab has been accepted :D :thumbs up

No recent news of Onnie and Bunduk.

I hope all is well with everything here :goodvibes:
