Frenchy July 20th, 2008, 11:49 AM You still have to give heartworm meds but I've read that giving your dog Apple Cider Vinegar helps keeping mosquitoes away. I've been giving apple cider to my dogs for months now , I only find out not long ago that it helps with mosquitoes issues too. (bonus !)
I thought it was strange too , I usually put some Skin So Soft on my dogs when there's too many mosquitoes after them but didn't have to this year.
The cider is pretty cheap , at any health store , I bought a 1 gallon for $22.99 a couple months ago , you put a bottle cap of cider in their water and voila ! :thumbs up
Frenchy July 20th, 2008, 12:13 PM I should add that the one I was posting about is the Organic one , "unfiltered and unpasteurized".
14+kitties July 20th, 2008, 12:16 PM Does it work on us too Frenchy? The dogs aren't bothered much but the skitters love me!
mona_b July 20th, 2008, 02:26 PM Have they been loosing any weight?
The reason I ask is that the Apple Cidar Vinegar in humans is used for weight loss.I know a few woman who use this, including my sister.
I know that garlic helps.
14+,they love you cause of your perfume;):p
I actually use a bounce sheet.I get a fresh one and rub it on the bare areas.Legs, face, arms, neck and face.It does work.
Frenchy July 20th, 2008, 03:21 PM Does it work on us too Frenchy?
I guess so , I'm thinking the reason it keeps mosquitoes away is the vinegar in your system , even if we can't smell it , maybe THEY can. Have you ever tried Skin So Soft ? It does wonders and smells great too :cloud9:
Have they been loosing any weight?
I don't think so. The reasons I started to use it for the dogs is , suppose to be good for their stomach (if digestive problems) and good for joints too. It's suppose to be good for lots of different things  It's for humans (I should try it :p) but I buy if as a supplement for my fuzzbutts.
mona_b July 20th, 2008, 04:13 PM Hmmm,I never knew it was for other things.See,you learn something new every day......;)
kathryn July 20th, 2008, 04:20 PM You can use SSS on dogs?!? What about on cats? I heard people saying that on Yahoo Answers and was like.. what the heck? seems like a good way to poison a pet if they were to lick it off O_O
Also, does anyone know a way to keep ticks off a cat? I use Frontline in the spray bottle for all my cats (cheaper!), but Buddy keeps bringing ticks into the house and letting them loose in my parents bed. They aren't biting him, they are just taking a free ride in his fur.
My moms getting freaked out and about to make him stay outside all the time cause ticks are kinda scary to find in your bed!

How about keeping him INSIDE ? The end of all your problems

Can't. He was born outside..... he's still wild-ish. I keep him inside at night and he only goes out for a few hours a day. If I don't let him out, he runs out. Better I take care of him then him just being a regular stray cat out to roam.
erykah1310 July 20th, 2008, 06:23 PM I always have added ACV in the dogs water and no one has lost weight because of it yet.
I'm always preaching this stuff is friggen amazing... not only for bugs, but for ANYTHING.
Joint problems, liver repair, digestion issues and so on and so on.
No home with or without animals should be with out this stuff I'm telling you!
Its just as benificial for humans as it is for pets. And not only for weight loss

I know you can use SSS on dogs, the boxer friend I have uses it on her fawn boxers pre show for baking.
Basically you spray it on, leave it for a day or so then wash them out. Makes them shine and it really brings out the fawn.
14+kitties July 20th, 2008, 07:11 PM Skin So Soft just makes the bugs like me more. :frustrated: I bought 3 bottles of the danged stuff because I heard it was good for that. Nope, it didn't.
I have used it on the kitties though. You dilute it half and half. You are supposed to use it on their sleeping areas to get rid of fleas. Have no idea if it works on ticks. My kitties have never had any. Sam gets them though.
Ms. Mona - I don't often use perfume and never when I am outside working or in the greenhouses. I shall have to try the Bounce sheets. See if that works. I can't handle the smell of the towelettes someone (Off?) makes. My kitties don't like me much either when I use them. Maybe Bounce will work.
mona_b July 21st, 2008, 08:14 AM 14+,maybe they know you have good blood...;):D
Frenchy,do you give them raw eggs?I give Tron raw eggs with a touch of milk and a dash of garlic. They don't seem to bother him that much.
