Lost Golden Retreiver in MARKHAM

Harry01
June 24th, 2008, 12:52 PM
I Lost my 2 and a half year Old Pure bread Golden Retreiver this morning around 7 AM in the 9th line and 14th area. He is a beautiful neutered male, very friendly. Someone must have left the door slightly open which enabled him to slip out. By the time I woke up around 8:30 he was gone. He is about 65-70 pounds, responds to the name Anbu and unfortunately has no collar. The hair on his tail is really long and looks like a fan. If anyone spots him please call me (Harry) at 416-707-1932. We are all eagerly awaiting his safe arrival.

Frenchy - Markham is not far from me in Ontario.

Contact www.pawanimalservices.ca they handle animal control for Markham. You might also want to check Th Kennel Inn in Aurora. Also keep your eye on the Toronto Animal Services website. Plus posters etc., Good Luck

I've been trying to post pictures but the files seem to be too big to post them anywhere on the internet. Markham is in Ontario, Greater Toronto Area. Still no word on him, I'm sure he is with someone. Hopefully they return him safe and sound.

you need to crop and resize the pictures to make it smaller. Have you posted any pictures in your neighborhood? That may help.

rainbow
June 24th, 2008, 02:26 PM
If you have Windows XP you can try this:

1. right click on picture
2. click on open with and then "paint"
3. click on "image" and then "stretch/skew"
4. change horizontal & vertical from 100% to 50%
5. click ok
6. click on yes to "save changes"

Pics can be no more than 100kb.....if they're still too big then you will have to repeat to make smaller but only do it by about 10% at a time.

Hope that helps and good luck finding Anbu. :fingerscr :goodvibes:

Harry, if you don't have the "manage attachments" option it's because you are a newbie and aren't allowed to post pics right away. It helps to keep the :loser:'s from posting porn pics here. You can send a pm to Marko or one of the mods and they will lift the restiction for you. :)

This is getting complicated lol, I think I'll have to get a degree in Computer Science before I will be able to figure out how to show you guys my dog on this forum.
Instead I made a Kijiji post (which also doesn't work for some reason). So here is the link to the kijiji post activation page. It displays pics of Anbu

Haven't Posted them yet, but will have them up by tonight. He did run away once before but he stayed in the area. Anbu always comes running when he hears my car alarm go off. I drove all around my area with my alarm going off and still no Anbu. Makes me believe that someone may have him and he is no longer in the area.

Have you put up posters in your neighbourhood, contacted the vets, spca, pound, etc.?

And, be aware of some :loser: answering ads on kijiji as a couple of others that have lost pets have gotten the message shown in this thread:

Thanks, I am going to print out the posters as soon as my parents come home, I'm sure they would want to give me their input as to what should go on the poster. Anbu is an amazing dog, His curiosity just got the better of him. I contacted www.pawanimalservices.ca and reported him lost. Also toronto animal services in Scarborough. Spoke to a lot of people in my area. There is construction going on where I live, I just find it weird that no one has spotted him. He's not a hard dog to miss.

Aslan, Thanks a million for posting the pics for me.

Harry, don't name a sum on the poster, if you must aknowledge you are willing to pay, just say reward offered for return of etc, etc.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get him, i can't get over how much the first picture looks like my boy, and they're the same age.

Harry01
June 24th, 2008, 08:06 PM
I found him in the classifieds on thestar.com in a city near Walkerton. I got him when he was 6 weeks, he was living with his siblings and like 10 cows lol. I figured putting a sum on the poster would entice whoever has my dog to bring him back. I strongly feel that someone has him in their home. He would never wonder so far away from home.

He was born December 15 2005

nope the amount isn't a good thing, some people might think its not enough, some might not have wanted that much. The people that have him may not know how to get intouch with you. Oh my baby is from a breeder in north oakville, dob, may 25th

Harry01
June 24th, 2008, 11:34 PM
Put posters all around my area. Your right, the people who have him might want to get in contact with me just as much as I want to get in contact with them but just didn't have my number. We all miss him a lot, feels so weird not having him great us at the door with his toy in his mouth. As the night nears I'm getting more worried, I hope he is in a home and not stuck somewhere outside. I didn't put the reward amount on the poster, Just stated that reward would be given for Anbu's safe arrival.

Thanks Frenchy and edwpang. I just went to Anbu's vet, they are all really saddened by the news. She gave me about 10 phone number to call (clinics, pounds). So far no one has heard from him. My sister and I both heard Anbu's bark this morning which only further makes me think he is in the area in someone's home. My area is under construction, many of my neighbors haven't moved in yet, and the ones that have I haven't seen with dogs. Anbu was pretty much the only one in my neighborhood. Posters are my best bet I guess.

June 25th, 2008, 01:44 PM
Thats encouraging if you heard his bark, but nerve wracking too I bet. What about going door to door with pictures and contact information? It may be time consuming, but if you think you heard him, then it may be worth a shot. :goodvibes:

Yes for sure..knock on every door within ear shot...if you can have business card sized pictures made up with the contact information on the back..I find people keep that with them and will call if they see him...much easier for them to have handy in a purse or pocket.
Don't give up hope....What a beauty he is!

June 25th, 2008, 05:15 PM
Thanks everybody. My mom went knocking door to door yesterday but no luck. She didn't do all the homes though, so we are going to give that a shot today. My buddy is coming over to help me search, we are planning on going into the construction site (with caution of course). The construction people have met Anbu before his disappearance, he was their source of entertainment while they work. So they are also on the lookout.
Hopefully someone responds to the posters in my area. He is a wonderful dog I hope whoever has him isn't planning on keeping him.

We are speaking to a lot of people, it's like he just vanished. I called every vet in Markham to let them know he is missing, I call the Markham and Scarborough animal services twice a day. I know its only the second day but we baby him, I even stroke his head to sleep some nights, can't imagine him being able to live on his own out there. I really hope he is with a caring family. We miss him a lot and want him back.

I'm sorry you lost your dog, there's still couple of things you can do to find him...

advertise him in your local paper with his picture mentioning reward.

Also, contact some radio stations, tell them what happened and ask them to announce it on the radio.

Put up posters at local dogparks, talk to the people in the parks to tell them what happened.

Keep pounding on doors, asking if they found or saw your dog. Contact rescue groups, spca's, vets, dog trainers, everyone and anyone who may have anything to do with the animal industry.

Walk around, call his name..jingle his leash, squeek his favorite toy, maybe he will come out of hiding if he hears these things. You will also create some attention to yourself when your doing this, but take the opportunity to tell the people that you lost your dog and hand them a poster.

If there's a mall near your place, put posters on windows of the cars, do it at the construction site as well

I hope this helps..

I am wondering if you went out at night when it is quiet and called his name if you would hear him bark again. Then you may be able to pin point where he is?

Good luck, I hope you find him soon.

Harry01
June 26th, 2008, 01:57 PM
I am going to go back out tonight and search for him again, and keep putting posters up. I am also going to knock on more doors. Anbu isn't the kind of dog that would hide, he needs to be around people all the time, I don't see him running into a forest or something unless he is hurt and stuck, or do dogs do that sometimes when they are scared and lonely, even a golden retriever? I tried screaming his name and saying his favorite words; "Anbu, come lets go". But no luck. I put him up on almost every animal lost and found website, also Kijiji, and craig's list. Anyone who is even a little bit computer savvy will be able to locate me if he has Anbu, and if he wants to give him back. Having him around is starting to feel like a dream, like it wasn't real. My hope is dieing but I wont give up.

If you've got the stomach for it, string the :censored: along a bit. Let him think you're willing to fork over big bucks for your dog. These are criminals, well-organized and completely heartless.

I was looking for - but can't find - the web address of a woman in Ontario who posted some horses for sale a few years ago and started to seriously scam the scammers, stringing them along until they sent her the phony cheque (which costs them money), then hanging them out to dry.

Harry01
June 27th, 2008, 09:44 AM
I know they're cruel, but I kind of figured it might be a scam and prepared myself for it. After I emailed him back I did think it would have been a better idea to string them along, maybe tell them that the reward was $25000 or something in that nature, get them excited and then burst their bubble, like what they did to me. But its pointless because in the end no one will benefit from it. I wouldn't mind doing it if it resulted in them being punished for their actions (Arrested for fraud, charged, etc). These guys are low lives who end up living horrible short lives.

My mom told me that sometimes we have to take a deep breath and let go. I always realize that things happen for a reason, and things always work out for the better. I miss Anbu so much, but he is the type of dog that would get along with anyone. He loves children and would want to run towards them when he saw them on one of our walks. Anyone with a tennis ball was his new best friend. I'm sure he is safe, and in a wonderful home.

I am going to continue knocking door to door today, and put up more posters.
Thanks for all the support

Harry don't give up it has only been a few days so far. For your info as of July 1st the OSPCA in Newmarket in taking over the Animal Control Contract for Markham. I have already mentioned Anbu to my daughter and she will check daily once they assume the contract. Their building is on Woodbine Avenue just south of Mulock Drive. Did you check with The Kennel Inn in Aurora?

I thought so too aslan, it gave me a horrible flash back. Same style of language.

Harry I reaaly hope u find ure dog, he is so beautiful.

I know how u feel, I had one cat go missing (my fault I guess he was indoor-outdoor before I knew better) who was never found. I recieved my share of prank calls about him though.

Also, earlier in the year my indoor kitty Bunduk ran out and was 'found' by 'someone' who communicated with me much in the same style as the creep who had ure dog. In my case though he was in the city and actually dropped my cat off in the middle of a busy intersection when the person who found him got scared :frustrated:

Harry, sorry I didnt mean to give the wrong impression when I said it was similar, I meant the broken english etc but not the actual content.
Also the person who found my guy put up a poster with his picture as "found" so I knew he had him.

These people that contacted you are 100% scammers, just delete their emails- totally heartless of them. Definately if someone says there are in another country and u have to pay for shipping the animal back etc etc is it a scammer.

Dont give up hope, many people have found their pets after some time :goodvibes:

thanks onster, I thought for a second that these guys might have actually had Anbu. I got a call today from a lady in my area who said her grand daughter had seen my dog, so I obviously went to investigate. The little girl had told me that he ran into the forest (which is not a large of an area as it sounds), so I gathered a group of friends and went in. We called for anbu and searched the area but no luck. The girl then came running to me and told me that what she saw might have been a deer.

Also, I went to paws animal services today. I think they are the most unorganized, unprofessional business I have ever seen. When I drove into their 1000 square feet center I was greeted with an unfriendly worker who didn't want me coming inside for some reason. They had 3 barbecue machines operating, looked like a party. I told him that I was missing a golden and asked him if he could take down some information in case one comes in. So the worker went back into the building and came out with a brown paper napkin and a pen to write down Anbu's description???? I asked him if he wanted a poster instead and walked away knowing that they would probably never find my dog.

I live in Waterloo, beechwood area, actually go to UW :)

How big of a radius have u put posters up in? I would keep talking to people, going around and keeping it fresh in their minds. Someone may be holding on to Anbu as he's such a sweet dog but then pressure builds up when eveyrone around them knows theres a missing dog with the same description. Also, there was a lost pet not too long ago that was found by an elderly woman and it wasnt until her son came to visit her that he was able to look at the tags of the dog (too fine print for the woman). Thanks luckypenny, I didn't know about the golden rescue in Markham. I called and left a message. Is Toronto Humane Services the same as Toronto Animal Services? I did physically go to them and report Anbu missing. I've been getting calls this morning about found Goldens. One was from Oshawa and one was found here locally in Markham by a nice family. Unfortunately they were both not Anbu. But the calls are lifting my spirits, its nice to know there are caring people out there. The one in Markham is a very beautiful and friendly white golden, his tag said his vet was in Barrie, I'm sure his owners are very concerned about his whereabouts.
I put posters up all around my area, maybe a 5km radius. Many of them are coming off due to the rain, so I'm going to have to print off some more.

Unfortunately, no.. Haven't heard anything and I've stopped making daily calls to animal services. Every time I call they seem to know who I am without the need for an introduction since I call so often. She said that they have my information and will give me a call ASAP if/when they hear something. I still check their websites regularly though. My GF is making a photo album of Anbu just so that we never forget how silly and goofy he was.

I came across something on yahoo answers about the purpose of a dog's life. I'm sure that many of you have read this but for those of you who have lost a pet this might make you feel a little better, it did for me..

A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old)
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - - like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The Six-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long . "
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Ok, so I got an email from someone stating that they had seen a dog similar to mine in a shelter in Scarborough (about a 20 minute drive from my house). I posted pics of both Anbu and the dog found at the shelter.. what do you guys think?. The first pic is a pic of Anbu and the second pic is the dog at the shelter. I think the resemblance is striking.. Anbu had a weird rash on the bottom of his lip, the dog at the shelter seems to have the same rash in the same spot.. I am going to call tomorrow to get more information about this dog but for now .. any opinions?

I'm working on it right now.. I'm not too sure how to enlarge the pic without exceeding the file size requirements for this forum.

Thanks Shirley.. I hope its him also. We'll find out tomorrow I guess. How long do shelters wait before making a dog available for adoption. This dog has been at the shelter since October 31st.

I am definitely going to give them a call tomorrow morning when they open. I've followed many leads, but this one seems to be most promising. Thanks for the support guys.

Harry this dog is at the Toronto Animal Services WEST, not in the Scarborough shelter. Good Luck, sure hope it is Anbu.

I called this morning about the dog at the shelter, the receptionist told me that the dog isn't neutered, so it can't be Anbu because he is. It's just weird how similar they look. Unfortunately I cant get to the shelter in person because I'm at school in Waterloo (about 1.5 hours away). Maybe ill try to get my sister or mom to check him out.

Harry sometimes if a dog is a bit testy they put off checking, also with Anbu having long hair it can be hard to see. Although this dog has been there for some days now, really the best thing is if your sister could go personally rather than rely on a telephone call. Good Luck again

As an afterthought, it could just be a typo on his paperwork

Anbu does get feisty when we try to groom him. Ill have my mom go in person to see him when she's done work today. The shelter is a bit far from where I live. The only rational explanation that I can think of is that someone took him and decided that they didn't want him anymore. I'll keep you guys posted

Thanks Rainbow. My parents went to the shelter yesterday but unfortunately the dog there was not Anbu. The dog was apparently really young and my mom said that he looked just like how Anbu looked 1 year ago. The search continues...
