Walking the prairie . . . .

I had a team in the Kananaskis 100 relay on Saturday, a 100 mile jog from Longview, Alberta over the 7,239 foot Highwood summit (Canada's highest engineered road) then down to Nakiska . . . . so, on Sunday, you can imagine I was looking for something a little flatter for a walk with Abby and Keeper.

The featureless prairie sufficed.

Below, Keeper pauses to survey the world . . . . it was suitably breezy here, keeping the mosquitos and flies at bay.

Below, Abby and Keeper are well used to the treeless prairie . . . . although we had to keep our eyes open for bulls that we knew were vaguely in the vicinity.

Below, Abby runs through the wildflowers . . .

Abby, a portrait. Abby has lost half of the seven pounds she needs to shed after a dietary faux pas by her stupid humans ballooned her up a bit.

This is one of our favourite places, winter and summer, for light, mindless walking/exploring, open terrain for miles.

For a few moments, I did the Tom Sawyer thing, laid down with a backpack as a pillow in the waving grass . . . . and just let Abby and Keeper explore the surroundings.

What beautiful grassy landscape. Looks like Abby and Keeper like any kind of weather as long as they are outside.

That would make for a nice relaxing walk with beautiful green scenery.
Wonderful pics as alway.

I always get so homesick when I look at your pictures!
Guess it's time for a trip back to Calgary for a vacation!
The dogs are just so pretty too :)

Congrats on the 100 mile relay :thumbs up

Sadly, a 64 year-old man on another team died at the end of the eighth leg. A couple more needed medical attention after collapsing.

It was very hot - 28 C where he was, about 32 C on the pavement - and we were at about 5000 feet. Tough combination.

I did some bush running on the 10th leg. The guy finishing behind me puked next to my shoes at the finish line. Nice. I was up at 4:15 in the morning getting the team off to a 6 a.m. start, then doing support all day before my own leg at 6 p.m. . . . . I didn't have a great run myself but I have to say I was a little pooped by then.

A great day and interesting to see snow next to the highway at the summit . . . . .
