cat's whiskers

June 4th, 2008, 06:18 PM
We have noticed that our cat's whiskers are suddenly ALL shorter - evenly so (about 3 inches in length). We don't know whether she lost them all or had them cut somehow. She has not been outside or in any space in which that could happen. She does not seem to be in any discomfort or have trouble maneuvering or hunting. What could have caused this? We also don't remember seeing her WITHOUT any whiskers.

I would notice that every once in a while on my cats too, never found out the reason, but didn't seem to bother them at all.

Do you have any small children? I hate to admit this but when I was a little girl, I took the scissors to my cat's whiskers :o Yes, whiskers do fall out, but if they are suddenly shorter but still there, sounds more like they have been cut. From what I recall, my cat was fine w/ shorter whiskers, and they grow back fairly quickly.

Some more info on Whiskers can be found in this post including why whiskers should never be cut:
