hi,
i am from northern ontario. i happened across this forum site as i was googling for information about the recent poisoning of my little dog teddy.
i found teddy, a blonde terri-poo on a cold oct nite in 2002. he was cold and skinny and scared. i phoned the shelter and told them a discription, thinking someone would be frantic for this sweet little guy. i couldnt believe no one ever looked for him. i officially adopted him 5 days later. it was love. he clung to me and followed me everywhere. i loved him and spoiled him. well, i guess i spoil all our guys, we have winston, a 7 year old shelter dog, mixed 65 pounds, and honey, a old girl in horrid shape when i found her on the street, wasnt suprized no one was looking for her, the shape she was in. and we have 2 cats, both from the local rescue group, viper, tabby, 20, and kitca tabby, 17.
anyway, teddy got into the compost last weekend. i had just stirred it up and it was ripe. somehow his collar came undone when he was out and he went to that ripe compost. i had no idea it was a problem, it is all natural. i was just mad at him because he stunk. by the time i realized there was a problem a few days later (no symptoms at first) and called the vet, they said there was nothing that could be done. we hoped for the best, but he quietly just slipped away.
now i am trying to find more information to spread the word to anyone else who may come across this.
also, at the same time, i got a phone call from my daughters friend that they have found a baby squirrel and what advise could i give them.
ok, about me. i love animals and i guess everyone knows that. i rescue and save whatever i can. i dont do the rehabbing myself, but i work as a middleman to try to connect the right people together. unfortunatly, up here there are no wildlife rehab places. we have a few wonderful folks who have been doing it for years, but with those new mnr rules it is hard on them.
im not sure what else to say about myself, im happily married, teenage daughter. we all work and like our jobs. we love to explore outdoors: hiking, snowshoeing, canoeing, 4 wheeling. we love lake superior shore.
im going to find that squirrel thread now...
