My 12 year old maltese became somewhat disoriented yesterday. Symptoms of not appearing to hear when his name was called, looking past me, and trying to climb pet stairs from the side instead of the front. The evening before, he was quiet and seemed to be limping. I went to pick him up and he screamed as though in pain around the mid section. I gave him his pain meds, Tramadol and the pain disappeared. I don't know what to think. Anyone have any ideas? Possible neurological problem? seizure? Thanks.

It could be a lot of things, Nancy...and only a vet will be able to sort it out for you. Could be stroke, or seizure...or some reaction to the pain meds.

Can you get him into the vet tomorrow? Might be a good idea...

I hope he's better soon! :fingerscr

I agree and would take him to the vet asap. Good luck and keep us posted. :fingerscr :goodvibes:

Many thanks for your responses. I spoke with the vet via phone and will be bringing him in for evaluation even though he is apparently feeling fine today.
