Kitten and dog why cant they get along?

Hi,
I have a springer spaniel bitch shes 2 years old and we recently got a new kitten shes 9 weeks old we had her when she was 7 weeks,
My dog is not tolerent of her she goes over the top when my dad is holding the kitten she will not have the kitten on the floor walking around only if we hold her off the floor and only my dad if I held the kitten Angel (dog) would go crazy,
I need to know the best way to go about this
any tips?

Hi, could it be the dog just wants to play with the kitten?

I got my cat when my dog was two. The first time I saw them play, I was terrified because my dog was jumping around, growling (friendly growl as it turned out) and mouthing the cat. After a while I knew they were simply playing. The cat is a lot quicker than the dog though, so he was able to jump away fast whenever he's uncomfortable with the dog.

But of course if your dog is showing aggression toward that cat, that's another story. =/

Maybe you could put the kitten in a cage to let the dog smell him without harming him and let him get use to the kitten? that's what I did.

You need to introduce them VERY slowly. Keep them in separate room's and arrange meeting times. You MUST control your dog, do not worry about controlling the cat. The cat will come around when he/she is ready, but not when the dog wants to tackle it and play. I have used this method and it seems to work well. Here is a video of my dog/cat

And yes, they sleep together and cuddle.
