Are the dogs keeping the chickens from wandering? They seem to be taking their job seriously, lol.

That last shot looks like the rooster is HUGE!

It does doesn't it ancientgirl. From the other pics, I don't think it is bothered by the dogs, he holds his ground pretty good.

Gailp, do you have any baby chicks? We sure would love to see some pics of them too if you do.

The rooster is just average size (IMO), unless I've always had really big roosters  I think it's just the perspective of the last shot, plus the fact that Storm is always crouching down when he's stalking. The dogs don't really have a job working with the chickens, they just go along with me doing chores and then back up the house. I've only recently started letting the chickens free range and the dogs are having fun following them around when they're out. They're all well used to each other anyways though because the dogs go right into the coop with me when I do chores. Flurry's greatest joy is rushing in to find any eggs that may have been laid on the floor instead of up in the nest boxes. Crunch, crunch, gulp :dog:

None right now. I don't usually incubate my own anymore because I find that some off the eggs don't hatch and then I end up with too many roosters from the ones that do, and I have to try to find them homes. Now I usually buy day old chicks when I need to replenish my layers, or sometimes I'll get 20 week old ready-to-lay pullets. I tried something different the last time, instead of buying day olds in the spring and having them mature in the fall (which doesn't make a lot of sense since the days are getting shorter - which affects their reproductive cycle). This time I bought my day olds in the fall and they matured in early spring and they're laying really well right now.

I will be getting my day old meat chicks and turkeys in about a month. I'll try to remember to take some pics then and post them.

More like just the opposite. Storm kept blocking their doorway so they couldn't get back in. I think he wanted them to stay out so he could keep following them around
