Dog park etiquette - opinions?

Dear members,

Just got a call from a local radio station who wants to ask me about etiquette in dog parks late this afternoon.

Here's some of what I've come up with and I'd LOVE it if members could also give their opinions or add to the list.

1 - Dogs should be on leash 100% of the time UNLESS it's a leash free park.
2 - Poorly socialized dogs (aggressive) should not go to dog parks especially leash free parks
3 - If your dog is in heat, don't bring it to a dog park
4 - Don't pet strange dogs without the owner's consent
5 - Pick up after your pet.
6 - Dogs should be obedience trained so that if owners call them they come.

I was going to say - You must have complete control over your dog at all times. Kinda like your #6.

Parking lots and staging areas are On Leash Areas...

These are posted at my dog park...:)

Here are a few from experience:
-In an off leash area, if a dog approaching is leashed, leash yours too.
-Do not give or even carry treats. They cause problems.
-If someone is asking you about your dog, reciprocate with asking them a few things about their pet. Don't just go on and on about your baby.
-Never let your dog mount another.
-Wear washable clothes and expect a few paw prints.

Thanks for those Tips Ford girl and Hogansma, I mentioned you during the interview which just finished on a local CBC radio station in Ontario where it was broadcast live. It was a fun interview that just lasted about 5 min.

I hope with the tips and the broadcast that people will start listening..

I don't go to dog parks for this reason.. the etiquette that people don't follow and then it's no fun ..
