Could excessive barking mean my dog is going deaf?

I have a 10 year old miniture Schnauzer who has within the past 2 weeks just started barking excessively in the evenings. We have two dogs (2nd is a 4 year old Bernease/Rotty X) and the issue is not due to lack of attention since she still barks on our laps while being pet.

It is possible that she is going deaf and barking to orient herself? Or is it possible that something else is going on?

Have you tested her to see what her level of hearing is? This can also be a sign of brain abnormalities--for example, doggy 'alzheimers'. Or headaches caused by several things--might be time for a visit to a good vet if things don't improve.
