Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo, Jiminy....

April 24th, 2008, 11:23 PM
On Saturday Jimmy is coming to stay with me for a bit... maybe forever.

I first met him a couple of weeks ago when Border Collie Rescue boarded him at SuperDog Central while his foster mom was away, it was instant love. I said 'no' though because he's a little older (3 years) and I really would like something under a year. Then the following Tuesday they brought him to flyball, he's amazing the way he moves, quick on his feet, and he's really smart. We brought him out to test with Willow and they did great! The three of us played ball and had fun. So, I'm bringing him home for a trial to see how he and Willow do at home.

He needs work, he's basically a blank slate as his previous owners did nothing with him, he has a hard time with mechanical noises. We will obviously work on these things, and give him an outlet for this Border Collie ways (aka sports).

I will see how it goes and play it by ear.

I need a name, his previous name was Code, for some reason Core is sticking in my mind.

April 25th, 2008, 10:12 AM
Awww, thats awesome! I've been staring at Border Collies on breeder and the BC Ontario rescue website for over a year now, and Jimmy was always a favorite of mine. I want a Border Collie so badly, and I keep staring at Brew and Blaze on the site too :cloud9: I think I drive myself mentally insane wanting a dog, I'm already at a point past obsession :D

I really hope everything turns out well, Jimmy seems like such an awesome boy and I know he'd have a great time with you and Willow. Looking forward to pictures!

Willows got a boy friend nah nah nah nah nah!!!!

I too love the BC stare...they are so intense and focused. Can't wait to see them together - what riot!!

April 25th, 2008, 10:37 AM
What a cutie! I hope things work out and you can keep him.

April 25th, 2008, 04:56 PM
He's gorgeous! How can a handsome guy like that be any trouble at all? :lovestruck:

April 25th, 2008, 05:11 PM
No, not a boyfriend... that's icky... he's her brother!!! :yuck:

Spatx, you'll see him Tuesday then, I'll be bringing him to flyball. Did you see Buddy Aces, he's an identical twin to Willow, but he has dog issues so I can't take him. Jimmy (maybe Jovi) is awesome with her, they looked really cute side by side.

April 25th, 2008, 07:55 PM
What a handsome boy he is. :lovestruck: I hope Willow approves. :goodvibes:

April 25th, 2008, 08:57 PM
Congratulation Byrd ! :highfive: He looks amazing :lovestruck:

April 25th, 2008, 09:07 PM
Well, she approves so far, they played together and were fine.

I'm just worried about a little jealousy and toy guarding and such. This is her house, her stuff, she may not be too good at sharing.

I must say, this is a bittersweet night. Sweet because I get the boy tomorrow, bitter because it's my last night alone with Willow, I keep thinking "this is the last time we'll do this" everytime we do something. But we'll make new routines and new habits with the three of us. Then when Mohab gets here it will be the four of us. Life is an ever changing thing.

April 25th, 2008, 10:56 PM
Hey Byrd...are you still feeding Legacy to Willow?

If so, could you please update in the food forum.....thanks. :)

April 25th, 2008, 11:36 PM
Oh you lucky girls!! a new addition, how exciting :stork-baby:

April 26th, 2008, 09:15 AM
Yes, I actually just started feeding Legacy, and I don't know what you'd want me to write.

Yes, a new addition, I'm now one of those crazy people that adopts an older dog with issues. Brave, brave, girl.

April 26th, 2008, 10:49 AM

Ohh, I can't wait to meet him! I have seen Buddy Aces on the website, he's adorable but I know he wouldn't do well with Cody. I keep hoping to be able to adopt a BC soon, but it won't be for another 6 months at the least. In that time who knows what dogs will be available for adoption. I still would love a puppy, but I'm also quite driven to adopt from a rescue since so far all my dogs are rescues. I just don't know how Cody would do with an adult dog as he has some guarding issues over toys. Something I'll have to research and get some information about from trainers before we even attempt to get another dog.

April 26th, 2008, 12:52 PM
Hey everyone, I picked up Jimmy.

His original name was Code, so I'm thinking Core, it seems to fit and he does perk up his ears when I call him that.

He's very toy stimulated, I'm going to have to put them all away, so far I think he's had his mouth on every single toy in the house. Willow doesn't know what to make of this, they're her toys, but she's letting him play with them just looking at me with sad eyes like "make him stop mommy, they're mine". The only time they've gotten in even a little scrap so far is when he was on the bed with a toy and she tried to take it from him.

He's sure made himself at home, on my bed, on the couch, on the chair.... he even rests on the arm of the chair, but listens when I tell him to get down.

Don't mind the mess in the pics, these were within the first 10 minutes and as you can see there are at least 10 toys out already. Geesh.

Making himself right at home: (

What a cute pair: (

April 26th, 2008, 05:02 PM
OMG Byrd, they are just beautiful together, hopefully there won't be any problems:fingerscr
How come Cores ears are sticking up and Willows are down,is Core a mixed pup?

April 26th, 2008, 05:26 PM
Willow is an Australian Shepherd, Core is a Border Collie.

More pics

Here are my two reds outside: (

Side by side making funny faces: (

My camera is going to be busy this weekend.

April 26th, 2008, 05:54 PM
He is just gorgeous! :cloud9: The two of them look so perfect together, I really hope it works out! Can't wait to see the two of them on Tuesday, may be lots of drooling coming from me over your two pretty doggies :D

April 26th, 2008, 06:41 PM
Yeah, he's a handsome boy!

April 26th, 2008, 08:03 PM
Yes, I actually just started feeding Legacy, and I don't know what you'd want me to write.

Sorry, I thought you had been feeding it for a while as you said in this thread that you were starting "very shortly".....

I'll have to go bug OC Spirit now.

April 26th, 2008, 08:04 PM
Cute pics, btw, and Core is very handsome. :lovestruck: I love his colouring and his freckles. :cloud9:

Sorry, I had to wait for it to come in. I'm just starting my second bag.

April 26th, 2008, 08:20 PM
Well, it sounds like a "so far so good" situation. :D I hope it continues to work out well :fingerscr as it's great to have another Canadian grain-free brand available that is made in their own facility. :thumbs up

April 26th, 2008, 08:26 PM
Yeah, so far so good. I'll have to buy the large bag next time.

April 26th, 2008, 08:31 PM
HA HA....for sure, now that you've got two mouths to feed. :D

April 26th, 2008, 08:35 PM
Yeah, and he's a good eater. I gave them their food and both of them just scarfed it down, I've never seen her eat so quickly.

April 27th, 2008, 01:29 PM
Ah, what a morning. LOL

He slept in the evening on top of Willow's kennel, quite comfortably I must say. I don't know where they slept during the night, but nothing got destroyed. :thumbs up She's still following him whenever he moves, she doesn't get it. If he does something she doesn't think is right, she growls at him.

This morning I let them out and she wanted him to play so I let him off the line and no sooner done than he found the only opening in the backyard and off he goes down the street. I'm yelling "Kor, Kor, Kor, JIMMY!!!" he doesn't answer to that either. So, I squat down and make the silly noises that make him come to me in the house and he comes running to me. *whew* Willow ran out front too, but she just stood there staring at us like we were silly and then led us back into the backyard. He was instantly put back on the tether and won't be off it again until we move to my mom's where the yard is fully fenced, or we get that recall.

I just came out of my room and got a big Kor hug (yeah I changed the spelling, I found out the Luck Dragon's name was spelled Falkor not Falcore), he actually jumped up on me and gave me a big kiss. Then Willow went into a play bow and so did he, but as soon as they started to play she got chatty and he ran and hid. She so badly wants him to play tug-o-war but she growls while tugging and this scares him. I guess he'll get the idea eventually.

He's really comfortable, and he seems to know that I'm the one to listen to. OH, and he's already learning "down" (all he currently knows is 'sit' and 'outside').

April 27th, 2008, 05:34 PM
I definitely would have had a heart attack when he ran down the street! I'm glad he came back, but that is scary nonetheless. It sounds like the two of them are getting along well, and I'm sure he'll figure out that growling in tug of war = more fun! :D

April 27th, 2008, 05:41 PM
Oh, I thought I was gonna puke right there!

He's a smart boy, won't take much time to firgure stuff out. He's figuring out how things are done around here, like when they come in from outside they get a treat, he already comes in and sits for his treat.

It's nice that whenever I look at him or say something to his he wags his tail. He's knocked a few things down with it, I'm not used to having a dog with a tail. LOL

April 28th, 2008, 11:37 PM
How did I miss this?

I love :lovestruck: BCs :lovestruck:

Kor is gorgeous :lovestruck: good that he came when called w/silly sounds - that's some recall anyways :D

Willow & Kor look great together too :cloud9:

April 30th, 2008, 09:19 PM
They make a cute pair don't they. She knows who I'm talking about when I say his name. Best of all, I caught them wrestling and having a grand ole time this morning.

We're going to take the Radical Recall class to work on the recall. We started him in flyball last night and it didn't work out so well because you can't really do recalls with a dog that doesn'tknow his name.

April 30th, 2008, 10:55 PM
He's a BC ;) he'll catch on quick :goodvibes:

May 1st, 2008, 08:51 PM
Oh for sure... he's nearly learned "down" already.

May 1st, 2008, 10:28 PM
I had to come look at the pictures again, they are just too cute and I'm still so happy that Kor ended up with you, I really did have my eye on him in the rescue, so now I still get to see him .:cloud9: I really really wish I could get another dog, I've been watching a few in rescue and have their photos pinned to my fridge. If only plans would play out in life like I have them in my head.

May 1st, 2008, 10:36 PM
Spatx that's awesome!

I really loved how he and Cody were french kissing...LOL Too funny.

May 1st, 2008, 10:48 PM
LOL, that was funny :D Cody loved Kor, the only other dog he kisses like that is a female Border Collie named Maggie that goes to the same park as us. He used to kiss my older dog, but because of his arthritis and medical issues, they no longer interact with each other, but everytime I'm outside I can see Cody wants to play with him. If only my parents would let me adopt another dog.. I still have my hopes that in a few months they may let me, but I don't know. Hehe, its driving me crazy wanting to know if they will say yes or no, but for now I have to wait as patiently as I can... it seems like it would be so easy to send in an application to BCRO, but I can't yet.

May 1st, 2008, 10:57 PM
I've just posted some more pics of Willow and Kore.

I think I would wait before asking, after all they are taking you an hour away for classes. LOL

May 1st, 2008, 11:24 PM
Ohh, I'll have to check out the new pictures.

I completely agree, I'm waiting before asking, as hard as it is. I figure once I learn to drive and have saved up some money it may be fair game, plus I already have my hands full training Cody, lol. :D Something spooked him on Tuesday and I've never seen him that distracted before, all he wanted to do was get out of the building. It happened about halfway through the class, and I have no idea what set him off. I'm hoping next week will be better as he's doing great at home, but still has a lot of things we need to work on. Once we get a better idea of his problem areas I'm hoping we'll be able to focus on improvement.

May 5th, 2008, 10:09 PM
Kore had his first class tonight, the Radical Recall class. We mostly worked on attention, and he did really well. He's very smart and I think that's what half of his issues are caused from. I have the most confidence that I can bring this dog around. :fingerscr

See you tomorrow Spatx, I'm sure he'll be fine this week... lots of positive reinforcement.
