Yes I did go last year.

I had been asked to be part of the "Doggie Make Over". But things behind the scenes are run so poorly that the lady ended up booking two dogs on one day (instead of one dog each day). She didn't have the guts to tell me until after the other dog was on stage.

She did feel really bad about it that she gave me a doggie sofa (which funny enough matched my living room sofa). Gizmo LOVES his own sofa and acts like a king when he is sitting on it.

My mom and one of my aunts came with me last year and they had such a great time that my other aunt and I think my uncle from kingston are coming as well (and they don't even have dogs).

Last year I only made it on the day of the walkathon and didnt realise that it was set up the way it was! would have loved to look around myself at some of the booths but couldnt really. We were taking care of a booth and I we had dogs with us! This year I will probably go 1 day by myself and the second day with my dog! Have to let him do the walkathon!! Good way to raise money!

German Shepherd Rescue! Are you going LP? I went last year and it was a beautiful warm day! Lots of doggies!! I mean lots! It was really funny, we did the walkathon and Winston was enjoying himself walking behind 4 great danes! didnt have to lift his nose to far if you know what I mean!

Its one of those things that is a good way to spend a day or even a few hours...Its basically all pet stuff in booths.. that people sell..everything from foods, coats, clippers, health stuff, balls, toys you name it! All kinds of rescues are respresented. I loved it because there were so many dogs I was in doggy heaven and they had bowls set up everywhere for all the dogs to drink from...a bathing area for the dogs to keep them cool, really a good set up....

Winston enjoyed the walk! It was shorter than I expected but a great way to help raise some funds!

It wouldnt take you 2 days to do it but it is open for 2 days!

I'd probably take the train down and get some visiting done while I'm there. It would make a nice mini-vacation. About how many booths are there in all? I'd love to see a bunch of doggies all in one place too :cloud9: .

I have an air-mattress and a kitty who cuddles :laughing:

Which hotels have you checked? They're advertising King Ed which is high-end but there are a lot of more affordable ones within walking distance of the area.

Wow, that is all I have to say...Please say all dogs HAVE to be on leash, that is the only way Harley could go if we go

Winston
March 24th, 2008, 07:51 AM
yes.....there wer many huge! dogs! I didnt really see many off leash! All types sizes shapes colors you name it! Thats were I saw a Cane Corso for the first time! He looked like he was at least 180 pounds! It is really alot of fun! As long as you control your dog your okay! Winston is sometimes a handful and this was an event I worried about! He was excellent! A little excited at the beginning but he tired out after awhile and just hung out!! He drooled all day! It grossed me out! he never really drools but OMG it was awful I had to walk around with paper towels! and funny thing too he wouldnt drink out of the water bowls around the area?? only his own!
I think Harley will be fine!

Cindy

hey thanks for spreading the good word!! Hmmm let me think about advertising stuff.

But aside from that I totally think it will be fun and I'm going to try hard to make it. I'd love to meet more Pets.ca members and their 4 legged children in real life. Going to try and bring Carmy (wifey) and maybe drag some other family members as well. ..and of course I intend to bring a camera and take tons of pics! :D

aslan
March 24th, 2008, 08:22 AM
OHOH I wanna go toooo!!! We could make Pets.ca nametags with our sign on names so we would see each other in the crowd. Quincy would love to go, Bailley we will have to have a discussion with that the toys aren't all his.

Winston
March 24th, 2008, 08:31 AM
Hey this is great! we could all meet up at a certain spot! there is a water fountain there! sort of in the middle of it all! Good spot for a crowd! Any one else been? there are ALOT of dogs! I cant even put a number on it!

Cindy

March 24th, 2008, 08:35 AM
hmm golden retriever and a fountain. How mad will they get at him swimming?

Winston
March 24th, 2008, 08:38 AM
Oh! no need to go in the fountain! They have pools set up for the dogs! Lots of retrevers in there! It was fun!

Oh now I am brainstorming! First off Marko rents a bus! he then stops by and picks up Frenchy, Lp,Rottielover and a few others along the way! Bus must be pet friendly of course! Everyone figures out there own accomodations and enjoys the fun! Oh@))8c..I forgot to ask Marko if he can drive a bus!!..Hope so! That would be fun! Marko you in?

Wow, I wish they had something like that for cats, :D but I don't think it would be the same. Lots of hissing and such.

I hope you all take pictures because that sounds like a lot of fun.

I went in 2006 but not 2007 - I understand the venue changed. While the Distillery District was okay in 2006, with all of the outdoor booths on a day that turned out to be quite warm, many dogs became overheated and anxious. Many people suggested that it was the "other" dog that go their dog upset - heck with was all the dogs! Not too many dogs were off leash. My dog's groomer had a booth in 2006, but didn't go back in 2007. Was the new location better? I didn't take my Eskie in 2006 - he had just turned 2 and was really a little devil - although as he is about to turn 4 on April 1 I can't say he has changed much. A puppy forever. I did meet a group of Dachshunds though so got my Dachshund fix - and a group of Eskies - you could see them coming from a mile away - every which way but straight.

I'd be happy to facilitate a meeting spot at my place if people are interested. It's a pretty convenient spot for people who need parking.. there are 3 lots around me and parking around Front St. will be insane I would imagine between Woofstock and the Market.

I'm also really close to the subway for those TTC-ing and for anyone bringing dogs, there is a small doggie park behind my condo. It might be easier than meeting at St. James Park... I know from last year it gets pretty busy in there! Anyway, just a thought - I'm about a 5-10 minute walk from where its happening.

Winston
March 24th, 2008, 09:38 AM
Snowdancer I am not sure cause that was the first time I went! I have to admit we did have a really warm day last summer and the doggies were hot! thats why they had the pools set up! Its in the St Lawrence Market area which I have never been either other than the day of this event...looked like there were many very neat shops to look in as well...I was in a booth last yr for most of the day so I didnt have alot of time to wander around...

I will definitely go I have been with Buddy :rip: for the last 3 years. He really did not like crowds but he always had fun especially when he got to go in the fountain and play with another mastiff looked like they were going to empty the fountainhttp://www.pets.ca/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=568009
Pet forum for dogs cats and humans - Pets.ca - Reply to Topic with there diving and jumping. Good memory. But there is always lots of water and the parkette has lots of shaded areas. I am hoping to maybe have a new rescue kid by then. I would love to meet some of the crew from pets.ca I will most definitely see Winston I always make the round of rescues set up.We have to set up a meeting place maybe the fountain area it is shady could be a possibility.

Winston

Hey Frenchy! thats why someone has to drive the bus!

Aha better idea, Hazel has a bus, she dries the pack up, picks up LP Frenchy Rottie oh and of course Sarah, etc.

 hazel doesn't have access to the bus anymore--it was the Pack's friend's bus...and Buddy sold it...

Besides, it only seats 14 and us and Frency and LP would more than fill it up!

 Images flying through hazel's brain of trying to get 8 dogs past the border stop!

Woofstock does sound like fun, though. Wish we could make the trip...

Thanks, Winston. Guess I could have my husband go park the car on Yonge St. somewhere and let El and me by the market. I did hear the location was better last year. Eskies are "funny"?? so not sure best place for El to go, but I did meet a lady who took her Eskie in 2006 because he had just turned 3 and therefore an "adult" by Eskie standards! I think she was starting to regret that. El is a good boy, and well behaved in a controlled environment - but most other white dogs HATE him, for actually no reason. He doesn't even get to give the first bark/growl anything - all he does is prance like the little boy toy he is. He would love the water though - no chance this guy is ever getting a little swimming pool. His idea of fun would be to tip it over, roll in the water, get filthy and then demand I refill it. He has gone swimming though when we are away and the lady who boards him takes the dogs to the ravine - and he is one muddy and happy guy afterwards. My husband still can't believe that Ellie swims - or that he would swim - one "funny" dog.

For those coming to Woofstock dont forget you can help out by joining in the walkathon with your pooch! The nice part about the pledge forms is that you can collect donations on behalf of your preferred rescue and the money goes directly to them..OR you can collect pledges and then that money is divided up between all of the rescues! If anyone needs any info just let me know!

I can say first hand that this event helps ALOT of organizations and at a time of year when it is really needed for most! It also is a great way to advertise your rescue group, or your business! Just think of how many pets we can help out!

I am looking forward to meeting all of you than can go in person!!

For you Torontonians, will the Waterfront Blues Festival be held anywhere near Woofstock? I'm trying to plan my itinerary :o .

aslan
April 28th, 2008, 04:54 AM
LP= the waterfront blues festival runs June 6,7,8. if you google "Toronto waterfront blues festival" it will give you all the info like times and who's playing.

Yeh, it's the same weekend as Woofstock. I was just wondering if both locations were nearby each other? I'm still trying to decide if I'll be driving down or taking the train.

aslan
April 28th, 2008, 06:20 AM
LP- the festival is a bit farther east, but you could just take the streetcar straight along queen st. or if driving go right along lakeshore.

April 28th, 2008, 06:23 AM
Streetcars in Toronto? Cool! Can you tell it's been too long since I've last been there  ?

aslan
April 28th, 2008, 06:26 AM
lol, ummm as far as i know there have been streetcars for longer than i've been around. and they make life so much easier than walking. luckily for you they just ended their strike. If you're meeting up with us at woofstock one of us can direct you or go to mapquest and just get directions from say yonge st and front st to coxwell and queen st.
