This is my second chessie, and my breeder is telling me chessies don't need frontline due to their oily coats and natural odors. Never heard this before. Any truth to this?

If you could contact the Breed Club for Chesapeake Retrievers they might be able to tell you, but if you often get into tick territory, I sure wouldn't want to go without some sort of tick preventive. We put Frontline Plus on our dogs every 3 weeks during tick season and we've still been battling anaplasmosis and lyme's, just because ticks are so prevalent here. If the some of the ticks are tough enough to survive Frontline, I'm thinking they wouldn't let a little oil and scent repel them.

I'm not sure how prevalent ticks are in the Chicago area, but if you come north at all with your dog, I don't think I'd want to risk it without the Frontline.
