Cat pawing my husband's face in the morning?

Hi,

I have 2 cats, a 3 year old boy, Sobie, and a 2.5 year old girl, Maple. They both sleep with us on the bed, Maple is usually sleeping on my husband. For the past 2 weeks, every morning, she has been pawing his face. She has occasionally done it to both of us before but now it's constant and sometimes with her claws out and just does it to him.

They have automatic feeders for food and water, both indoors in an apt so they don't go out. I clean the litter box before bed and I'm the only one that scoops it. Why does she paw his face? He tried to hide under the blanket and she was so determined that she actually crawled into the blanket to do it! He's happy that she's showing her affection but he's not getting enough sleep. We adopted Maple when she was about 5 weeks old and had Sobie since he was 3 months old so they're not new pets. TIA!

As you can see, she's very attached to him and always sits on his lap when he's home!

Since you have all the basic needs/wants (food/water/litter/outside) covered I'd guess she's looking for love & attention, some playtime perhaps.

What does she do if he pets her or scratches her head/ears when she paws @ him?

Awww, she's such a pretty girl. She just loves her daddy.

My Oksana has started "tapping" me in the mornings. If I don't turn my attention to her fast enough, then she starts clawing at me. They just want some attention and their morning pet I think. Now, Oksana isn't a cuddling kitty, but she does like to get her pets and rubs on HER time which is usually at about 4:00 in the morning.

I was wondering, does she just paw at him or is she "making biscuits?" I've read that's a sign of being happy and that it also brings them comfort. Maybe that's part of it too.

The kneading or making biscuits is definately signs of cats being happy & gives them comfort - they learn this as very young kittens to help stimulate mother's milk flow ;)

:headslap: how could I forget to mention - yes Maple is very purrty :cloud9: how about a pic of Sobie too? :D

Since we're one of their principal sources of entertainment, it figures that they would want us up bright and early . As to why things start out of the blue, the cat ain't explainin'.
That picture is worthy of a frame. Her little character just shines through.

Thanks for all the replies!

She mostly just paws at him, sometimes she kneads. Both of them are definitely the cuddly friendly type. They'll greet us at the door when we come home and Maple will give each of us hugs by reaching up our legs. When I pick her up, she'll purr and nuzzle into my neck :lovestruck:
We play/pet/comb them at least once a day and they also like to be picked up. They'll follow us around and sit with/on us on the couch and poke their heads into whatever we're doing.... it's like they'll miss out if they don't!

After she wakes him up, he'll pet her and she'll just purr and enjoy it; maybe she does want petting on HER time lol!

Here's Sobie =D

and here's the 3 of them... Maple likes to crawl onto his back once he picks her up and Sobie cried to be picked up too!

Yup sounds like she's looking for cuddles on her time :D

They're both adorable :cloud9: are they littermates?

hehe thanks ^_^
Nope not littermates... a lot of people ask because they look so similar! They just happened to both be orange tabbies. We got Sobie from a friend and adopted Maple from the SPCA 3 months later. They both get along wonderfully and are best friends!

In our multi-dog and cat household, it seems there is someone wanting attention almost every hour of the day...and sometimes night:rolleyes:.
Since I'm up with the larks (just not as cheery as one in the a.m.!), I'll often try to let DH sleep in a bit by luring all the critters out of the bedroom and feeding them a snack; gotta get out to the ponies asap, as they have 'servant's up!!' radar and if I make them wait I pay for it with messiER stalls and rude comments.

However, this technique of cat/dog bribing with a snack (and closing the bedroom door) usually backfires i.e. by the time I finish with the pony cuisine, there's always some cat trying to dismantle the closed door...one of them is pretty handy with a screwdriver :wall: . I think it takes a very determined person to ignore early morning critter attention-seeking; it's possible, but often just not worth it.

Sometimes I ponder taking revenge by waking all the snoozing furkids later in the day, but you know what they say..."never wake a sleeping :cat: :dog: cat/dog/pony!" Gotta enjoy the quiet where you find it...learning to nap is a handy skill!

p.s. cute cats!!

Your cats are beautiful :cloud9:. Sounds like this is normal cat behaviour trying to get daddy's attention for some luvin'. ;)

O.M.G! Sobie is just so beautiful and super-furry :lovestruck: Don't get me wrong, Maple is a cutie too!!! I have a thing for orange tabbies since my Spoutnik II ...

temporary interruption in writing ... a crash and bang sound from another room ... Spoutnik III had toppled over the lamp on Lewis' bedside table as well as a water bottle and the radio-alarm! All three on the floor, the lamp shade ascew ... and Spoutnik crawling inside it!!! :frustrated: darn kitten :frustrated: he's lucky he's so cute  :D

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

We'll try the t-shirt thing!
She pawed this morning and he just petted her for a bit and she went back to sleep. We think she misses him because he's been working a lot lately so hasn't been around as much.

And Sarah, our kitties knock things around all the time!! But it's hard to get mad because they're so adorable lol.
