Yikes!! What if some crack head decides he/she wants more drugs, then kidnaps cats just to get the $5 each??

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The tiny southwest Iowa town of Randolph is fed up with wild cats and is offering a $5 bounty for each one.

If the cats aren't claimed, they will be euthanized.

Mayor Vance Trively said Randolph has dozens of feral cats -- and the population keeps growing.

The City Council approved the bounty, which went into effect March 1.

The mayor said several suggestions have been made, including neutering. But Trively says they'd just end up in the same boat.

John Snyder is with the Humane Society of the United States. He doesn't have a problem with humanely euthanizing the cats, but he's concerned about who's catching the cats.

He said a feral cat is a formidable opponent and there's the potential for rabies.

Snyder says the money would be better used to hire someone who knows what they're doing.
