Training kitten to live with parrot

I am moving into a new apartment with a few friends, and there has been talk that they will be getting a kitten. I am the owner of a quaker parrot, and I'm a little weary of the situation. I've had an older cat that never had a problem with our birds before, but she was quite calm when we started having birds and was declawed. I'm a little worried about bringing a parrot into an apartment with a kitten (which they don't plan on declawing) and was curious if there are any tried and true methods to train kitty not to attack my bird.

That would depend entirely on the cat. It is a cat's instinct to go after birds and small creatures, however some of the hunting instinct is stronger in some than in others. Can you keep the parrot caged so the cat has time to get used to it in the house and watch the cat's reaction to the bird?
