Is it for looks or for health reasons?

is because they are working dogs, and the ears should be always cropped.
(they are dogos argentinos)

thanks

I've seen many dogos without cropped ears... unless you have them running through brush alot or working with other animals cropping isnt really nec.

I know with my dogs breed (Caucasian Ovcharka) the breeder has the cropping done at a few days old.
Is that not something the breeder does in the case of Dogo Argentino?

Do vet's not do that for you. I do not believe in cropping ears as it is very painful however, you sound adamant on doing it so I would ask anyone you know in your area or call some vet's and make sure they have done this many times before as some dog's get a jagged cut that looks bad. How old are your dog's as again they should be very young so they do not remember the procedure. Remember vet's are only human so be assertive as to what you are looking for and want. If they find you to intimidating then they do not deserve your business. Alway's remember the dog has only you to protect them.

hello
dogos should have always the ears cropped.
the dogs don't remember the procedure because they are spleeped when this happen. belive me, they do not suffer any pain if you take good care of them.
i'm looking for someone with experience, i have 2 dogos with ears cropped. and they do just fine.
in the case of these dogos, they are 2 dogs with 3 months, and other with 5-1/2 months.
i know dogos have been crooped at 1 and 2 years. if the vet knows how to do to it should not be a problem.
dogos are made to run and hunt wild boar.. that is what i have them for.

Oh! Didn't know that..... Well I can understand wanting to crop then but still if you got the dogs from a good breeder they would have taken care of that for you. I would check with local dogo breeders as they would know a good vet for it. You don't want a bad crop that's for sure.

my 95lb dog runs from PUPPIES. i think a boar would be waaaaay outta his league. ;)

talk to the breeders in your area and see who they recommend. :)

Either Birchwood Vet or Linden Ridge used to do it. Not sure if they still do though. Give the vets a call and find out.

that is because the vet did not do it right. or the owner never take care of his/her dog.
My dogos never had any problem.
