Seizures from Anxiety or separation?

I have a Bichon Frise who is going to be 3 in May. She weighs only 8lbs. She is normally a happy and content dog. But when I take her in the car to see the vet or groomers, she has a siezure as soon as she exits the car. She just started doing this in the past year. She had one today and the groomers turned her away. Our vet said that she is NOT epileptic but has anixety attacks that is particular to her breed.

My question is...Should I get an herbal-type calming drug so that she can get groomed? No one will take her because of the risk of her having a seizure during grooming.

As I stated earlier, this only happens when she goes somewhere (outside the home) and ususally subsides after one or two.

You could try Rescue Remedy, one of the Bach Herbal Essences. It comes in drops and recently, a spray. The minute she freaks out, a full dropper or blast of spray straight into her mouth. If it has no effect, administer again 15 minutes later. It is completely safe. It has worked on my cats when they go into panic mode. I wouldn't use it continuously, however, because it may reduce the effect when you really need it.
Could the vet not prescribe a low-dose tranquilizer for such occasions?

Thanks so much for your reply. No he said that he didn't want to administer any tranquilizer to her. I pray that works...Dakota's hair is getting so matted.

You might want to employ a mobile groomer who could come to your home thus lessening the anxiety of travelling.
