First Time Away from Home

June 16th, 2004, 10:22 AM
Okay, Sadie's down at the dentists' going under...getting her 'braces'

I didn't wanna leave her :( her first time away from us!

She is gonna be p'd off at me when she wakes up.
No food / water this morning and let me tell ya she wasnt too happy about that one!

Me gave her a big kiss and hug then they took her away :( sniffles!

We will be able to pick her up this afternoon sometime.

I'll let you know how it works out!

This was this morning....she just went with her didn't even look back at me! LOL so funny!

June 16th, 2004, 10:38 AM
((((hugs)))) Luba!

I know the feeling you have about leaving her. I can never get over that feeling when I have to leave any of my dogs.

Take some pictures of her new teeth when she comes back.

Have you called the vet yet to see how she is making out?

June 16th, 2004, 10:48 AM
Yes they said, don't worry she's doing just fine :D

Ya I'll take pics of the braces, (incline plate) should be very interesting
I hope she accepts them and doesn't try to paw them out of her mouth.

June 16th, 2004, 11:11 AM
Ohhhhhh Mommy,you are in trouble.....LMAO.

I have to say,that is a funny pic.... :D

She'll be ok.

Sometimes it's good for them to get a bit of a break from us....OK OK,not this way....LOL

Keep us posted.

Like I really needed to say that..... :D

This is "our" little girl we are talking about... ;)

June 16th, 2004, 01:12 PM
Ok I got a call from the doctor

She did GREAT!!

They had to do some gum surgery as well and grind down the lower front teeth as they were beginning to ulcerate the roof of her mouth.

She is awake and alert and sitting up. So far no E-Collar as she's not scratching at her face (whew)

She can come home today :D

Ahhhhh sigh
Much better, knot in tummy going away now!

I brought Sidney over to comfort me lmao while she was gone
;) Heather

June 16th, 2004, 02:20 PM
Poor Sadie! OMG! Her tail's down! :(
Don't worry; she won't be PO'd at you. She'll think you rescued her. :) How's mom holding up?

June 16th, 2004, 03:30 PM
Whew! Glad thats over atleast for now!

We just brought her home. She's dopey but still her playful self.
She nearly knocked me over well actually she did lmao when she saw me, kisses all over ahhhh my baby!

I haven't taken a real good look at the incline plate *braces yet her gums are sensitive. The dr needed to do some surgery on her gums and grind down some teeth as well.

Otherwise it's pretty much a strict 24 surveillance on her so she doesn't try getting it out or chew on anything hard.

But we are HOME!! :D and I'm happy!

She had some mashed potato's to eat...and drank a little water.

Did I say how much I hate the stink of downtown

June 16th, 2004, 03:38 PM
I'm soooooooooooo glad she's home now with Mommy... :D

I bet she was glad to see you....Well just keep an eye on her...I'm sure she will be ok.

(((((((((( Luba & Sadie ))))))))

June 16th, 2004, 03:53 PM
Oh well,I can just see how pampered she will get now,but it's good it's over :D
Also,I have NEVER heard of a dog getting braces, but it must have been needed...I can just picture Sadies smile with these wire-braces :D
But I don't suppose that is exactly what she has
I had a cat once with an over-bite,she looked like a Siber(sp?)-tooth Tiger :p

June 16th, 2004, 04:01 PM
Ahh thx ladies!

She is resting now and comfy!

The incline plate is white & molded around the teeth u can hardly see it there.
Unfortunately this is needed or she would need to have several teeth pulled, including her canines. This will work out fine says the dentist because her teeth are still young and soft enough to be shaped easily.

June 16th, 2004, 04:07 PM
Awwww, poor little girl. Just wait until her teeth are in the right position... all the better to bite with. ;) And all the better to squeak the toys with.

Oh good! We wouldn't want Sadie's dazzling smile to be ruined!! :D

June 16th, 2004, 05:29 PM
but what does her boyfriend think?? kissing a gal with braces hmmmmm. oh sadie, you are one spoiled little gal, but that is a good thing :D . charlie is oldish and some of her teeth have snaped, the vets says it is fine as it would happen naturally in wild, but she looks more and more like a pirate every year, har har me hearties (charlie says dont tell sadie, cause sadie is fancy gal and charlie a bloody pirate of the high seas). charlie says 'Now walk the plank you stupid human, and fill me bowl before you do'. and the crowd sings 'what do you do with a drunken sailor earli in the morning, horay and up she rises' lol, lol, me so not funny :D :p

June 16th, 2004, 06:58 PM
Well, after bringing her home I was curious about how these things look in her mouth.

So, I looked on one side...then the other.

Hmmmm I thought, it looks like there is only ONE side done and the other side is really really swollen and tender. Bleeding a little as well.

So the bleeding stops but starts again.

I call the dentist...explain what I see

So I told her this happened before she was turned over into my care, Sadie has been by my side since the entire time, there's no way this happened when I got her back :(

So tomorrow she has to be anaestetized again and have another procedure done! I called the vet hospital and told them to look for this thing in the cage she was in or around that area. I hope she didn't swallow it :(

I really hope they don't charge me for this because it's not my fault, I didn't let her get into ANYTHING!

Well any positive vibes this way will be appreciated for tomorrow!

Incase you are interested this is what it looks like.

June 16th, 2004, 07:49 PM
Huge (((((((( Luba and Sadie )))))))))

Poor Sadie, having to go through it again.

Did they not check her before she was allowed to go home?

I too hope you don't have to pay for it.... :(

I'm sure everything will go smoothly tomorrow.... :)

I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow. :)

June 16th, 2004, 07:56 PM
Real Bummer! :( She's not going to like being taken back!   Good thing you decided to check it out! Is it small enough for her to pass it? Give her lots of luvins for us! :o

June 16th, 2004, 08:02 PM
Thanks muchly from us both!

Well, the doctor had to leave before we got there and her 'assistant' was supposed to discharge her to us. When I got there they wanted to keep her on IV for another 15 mins so we waited outside. About 10mins later I thought it was the 'assistant' that brought her outside to us.

So I started asking questions, and she said oh didn't so and so tell you about all that. I told her I thought she was that 'so and so' but she said she wasn't.She gave me the discharge papers and I said okay if I have any questions I will call.

That was that.

I wonder if the assistant did/didn't check it before Sadie left?
She would have noticed it gone for sure if she looked!

Ahhhh I do hate her having to go through this again, and I hope it goes smoother tomorrow.

She's so aggitated tonight won't sit still and is so irritated. Her gums must be bugging her a lot. It should be small enough for her to pass it in her stool yes. She had one since she came home but it wouldn't be in that one, maybe her morning one. I was so frustrated I didn't think to check it, thanks for mentioning it to me :D

I'll keep you all posted.

Here is to positive thinking

June 16th, 2004, 08:29 PM
Well I would definately talk to the doctor about it.Seems there may have been a failure to comunicate.. :(

And to be honest,I really don't think Sadie was checked before she left...Lets just hope she did...... :)

Poor Sadie. It must be so uncomfortable for her.

If she is in some pain, maybe the vet could give her something.Maybe there is something that can be rubbed around the area to numb the pain???????

It's worth a try..... :)

June 16th, 2004, 08:44 PM
You just never know!

The doc gave her something for inflammation before she left.

I'm not touching the area now, gonna wait until morning but will peak at it before bedtime. I took her for a very short quiet walk to get her aggrivation out and now she's resting. Will give her a little meal in a few mins then she has to fast again.

My poor baby!

June 16th, 2004, 08:50 PM
I'm willing to wager she will not be pleased missing breakfast two days in a row.

Ciara & I are sending positive vibes Sadie's way.

I highly doubt any Vet would install something in a dogs mouth that cannot be passed with ease....just in case.

June 16th, 2004, 08:52 PM
Ohhhhhhhhhh poor Sadie....And poor you....((((((.HUGS )))))

I do hope you both will be able to have a good sleep tonight. :)

You are an exceptional Mommy Luba...And I know Sadie knows that too...

You have been through alot with her.And you have never given up on her..

Here I go,getting all teary eyed and mushy....LOL

June 16th, 2004, 09:15 PM
Love the mushies, Mona...I really do!

Thanks Karin and I hope you're right!

All these positive vibes...good good good good vibrations!

(get ur mind outta the gutter)

I couldn't give up on Sadie, I'd do anything for her in a heartbeat!
You are all the same as me and I know you'd do what I do if needed.

Can we say lots of mosquitos this year though, man I've got more bites then I've ever had before. They used to stay away from me but now I get bit like crazy.....buzzards they are! I got about 15 bites right now! (maybe more)

Is it bad where any of you guys are?

June 16th, 2004, 09:21 PM
Try living in Florida....Ima a swamp sandwhich! B-1 Bombers I'm tellin' ya.

Forget the hawks, the skeeter's here can pick up a full grown Beagle.

June 16th, 2004, 09:27 PM

They aren't that bad here. But they are a Beotch at the ball park...Tons of them at this one ball park...We got something in the mail today...

West Nile virus season has arrived in Hamilton.....Oh yeeehawww....

They say that if you are bitten by an infected mosquito, symptoms usually appear 2 to 15 days.In mild cases you may have a fevor, headache, body aches and sometimes a mild rash.In serious cases would also include confusion(nothing new with me.... :D ) and muscle weakness.

You can also report standing(stagnant)water on private properties.

They wan't us to report any dead birds....If I heard right, there was a case in Milton not to long ago.

Well that's my free info on this subject.Any new info and I will have to charge..... :D

June 16th, 2004, 09:29 PM
Well did you ever think of tying thread to them and seeing if you can walk one!!

Gives new meaning to swamp creatures huh!

I hope to heckeroonie that I dont' get this darn west nile I'm still recovering from another type of encephalitis caused by shingles. I'd be DOOMED

June 16th, 2004, 09:35 PM
Oh Luba, poor little Sadie..bundles of positive thoughts from everyone in my house, kitties included :)
They better not charge you again,it's enough having to have Sadie go through all this again :(
Best of luck to both of you,I'll be thinking of you, huge kisses and hugs to Sadie!!!

June 16th, 2004, 09:43 PM
Ohhhhh my poor Luba Booba...

I hope you don't either..... :(

June 17th, 2004, 07:01 AM
((((LUBA AND SADIE)))) Ahhhhhh your poor puppy having to go back today after such a hard day yesterday.

I hope to heckeroonie that I dont' get this darn west nile I'm still recovering from another type of encephalitis caused by shingles. I'd be DOOMED

My ex had shingles it was just horrible ......i hope you are feeling better :)

but what does her boyfriend think?? kissing a gal with braces hmmmmm. daughter said people with braces these days are not as bothered by it, it's actually cool  So Sadie you are the coolest girl here.....lmao

Hope all goes well for you today Luba.....sending more good vibes your way from all my critters :D and me

June 17th, 2004, 07:55 AM
Yes Luba,alarm-bells went off when you mentioned skiter bites, please be careful, especially with your pre-existing condition.
They've already found dead Blue-Jays here in Halton, most crows are already gone, except for my two :D
I know you are against putting any poison on your skin, but you need to be protected.I am surrounded by Cedars, lots of skiters at night-time and at my tender age I have to be careful....
I guess Sadie is already back at the vet,Good Luck!!

June 17th, 2004, 07:56 AM
Brick sends his love and big sloppy kisses to Sadie!!! And an extra dose of kisses for you Luba Booba!!! Poor little girl......we are keeping our paws crossed out here in the prairies!!!! GO SADIE GO!!!! :D

June 17th, 2004, 09:12 AM
Luba, how is Sadie doing today?

June 17th, 2004, 09:33 AM
OH you guys are the BEST thanks so much for this moral support!

We took her back this morning and just got home (she's staying there for the day). The dentist was quite upset about the situation and agreed that her assistant should have checked Sadie b4 discharge and should have discharged her to me rather then getting a tech to do it!

However they are going to use a very mild sedative on her and she'll only be out for 15mins. The dentist isnt' gonna put her in a cage after she's gonna stay with her to see how she reacts. They have no idea how she damaged it but this is 'no cost' to us (whew)!

Catt that pic of Brick is absoluttttely kissable!! :D

Thx again ya'll are mushy makers!

June 17th, 2004, 10:03 AM
Well I'm sure the vet will give her poop...... :D

I'm glad it's of no cost to you.

How was she lastnight?

June 17th, 2004, 10:39 AM
Awwww - poor little BraceFace!! Lucky she's such a young puppy still and will get over this very quickly. I can imagine how peeved you are!

June 17th, 2004, 01:42 PM
I'm just catching up. How did Sadie do last night? Bet you didn't get much sleep worrying about her and bet you'll both be zonked tonight. This is when you wish you could go through it for them. How was she when you took her back to THAT place? :( We're all thinking about you! :)

June 17th, 2004, 02:04 PM
Hi everybody! Well your positive thoughts and prayers helped a lot!

No, I didn't sleep much ....on the vigil last night and I'm so tired.
BUT the good news is that she went this morning and now is back home. The procedure is over for now.

I can't stay long as I need to watch her and keep her occupied or have to put an E Collar on her and I really don't wanna do that unless necessary.

Thanks all of you for your support it means so very much to me and Sadie too!

On guard duty lmao

June 17th, 2004, 03:19 PM
I bet your tired... :(

Well I'm glad that it's done... :)

Awww, poor you, Sadie!! But you know, beauty comes with a price! :D

June 17th, 2004, 06:48 PM
Awww, at least she's not feeling too bad about it then. You must be ticked off with the "dentist."

June 17th, 2004, 07:59 PM
Beauty and 'me' the beast today with no sleep LR ;)

Nah not p'd off at the dentist Spoiled she is wonderful. There were support staff that were supposed to be watching Sadie. My guess is she was chewing on the bars of the cage.

This time she wasn't put in a cage.

However the dentist took her as her first patient this morning so Sadie would be home mid afternoon to recover.

She's had a meal and been looking out the window a lot. Poor girl, her boyfriend Tanner walked by she went NUTSO and I can't let her play with him for atleast today. He started drooling, she started drooling....reminded me of Romeo and Juliet or something like that. She kept barking for him to come back Tanner come back! Those two are sweet.

I haven't used the ECollar yet and Hope I don't have to but this means a constant vigil for 2 weeks atleast.

Oh well, she's well worth it! Bored though she's so bored without being able to play with any toys OMG she's a devil today!

June 18th, 2004, 12:00 PM
Just wanted to give you all a little update

So far so good! Sadie slept pretty good last night and today she's been having little naps. It's really hard keeping her from chewing on things though but it's better then putting the e collar on (she really hates it).

I'm gonna do a sweep so called of the yard today and pick up any twigs or sticks or pine cones etc... so I can let her run off lead a little bit!

Wish me luck :p

June 18th, 2004, 04:40 PM
Sorry, I didn't mean the dentist, I meant the other person who let the tech (I think it was) discharge Sadie.

June 18th, 2004, 04:42 PM
I'm sure she was 'spoken to'
The dentist was upset her time and the anaestetists time taken up, another surgical booking and more tech time.

June 18th, 2004, 04:50 PM
Yeah, it can be a real drag for the vets. A person I know had her dog taken to the same vet Bentley goes to to be neutered. Only one "side" got done because the other "side" haden't decended yet, and the vet had to do it over again.

June 18th, 2004, 05:14 PM
Ooopse a herniated ding dong lol ;)

June 19th, 2004, 11:43 AM
dammmmmmmmn, sorry to hear about the missing plate, Luba :(

the assistant should definitely have shown it to u... how long will Sadie be wearing this plate? are you taking time off work to be w her 24/7, or is that not necessary?

how long before she recovers and can start eating harder foods?

hugs to Luba & Sadie from Honey, Chocolate, and myself!!!

June 21st, 2004, 01:26 PM
Ya she has to be watched 24/7 so either mom or I have to be home.

It's either that or board her at the vets with an Ecollar on and there's no reason why we should do that.

She has a check up in two weeks and the dentist said possibly at that time if they dental plates have done their job then she can take them out and she can be spayed at the same time.

So another couple/three days of monitoring after that. But she's worth it.

It's hard with a puppy though, they put everything in their mouths. She's been missing her ice cubes and bones and such but it'll all be worth it!!

So far so good, since the last time :D

June 21st, 2004, 04:37 PM
poor puppy, boy first braces and the spaying, gosh the poor gal is getting it all at once (that is probably a good thing).poor poochie ;)

June 21st, 2004, 05:07 PM
no wonder she's so sensitive... ;)

*hugs* to sadie!

June 21st, 2004, 05:37 PM
thx ladies from us both :D

June 21st, 2004, 09:05 PM
Give her some tummy-rubs for me!
