I just wanted to start a thread about general animal foster care.
The pros, the cons--what your experiences have been. I want to foster dogs specifically, but am interested in cat anecdotes as well.
I'm really looking forward to being able to do it when I move. I'll have 2 fenced acres, plus more house than I need by myself.
Also, I'm theplainsjane on AIM and Yahoo! Feel free to IM in re: pets.ca or whatever else. Nice to meet everyone!

If you want to foster for a rescue, make sure you find out as much about them as you possibly can. Ask if they have a contract, and how they get the animals adopted out.
Be very careful who you foster for. Fostering is very rewarding, but also a lot of work and heartache too.

My oldest son (13) volunteers for the local humane society and as part of it, we foster animals also......
so far mainly puppies and kittens too young to be adopted out. we have had two mix breed puppies for a few weeks, a momma cat and her kittens for 6 weeks, and now have 2 singleton kittens who were both taken away from mom too young. It has been alot of work, but also very rewarding for us and the kids. we have been asked to also foster adult dogs who need some extra help or training to make them more "adoptable" - and look forward to doing that AFTER our little Bailey is trained! :D

Nice to meet you welcome to the board!
I have nothing negative to say about fostering. It's one of the most rewarding things that you can do for yourself, your family and a furry who needs a home full of love and direction!!
