A golden-brown spot has been growing in my cat's right eye over the last 6 mos. It's started at the bottom and now is in a half-moon shape visible at the bottom of his eye. It is definitely growing but very slowly. Should I be concerned? He is otherwise healthy.

Holy smokes, you've waited 6 months!. I would certainly want to know what it is and I would be taking him to a vet.

It's called Iris Melanosis (basically, freckling of the iris). Tends to be more common in older cats. It would be a good idea to have it checked out and monitored by your vet. Usually these are benign, but some can become malignant melanomas and be very deadly, and in other cases they can result in glaucoma. Here's some more info for you:

Our longer cat has a spot on her eye and requires daily drops to stop it's spread. She's had it since she was a kitten. Not tended to it would have resulted in blindness in that eye. It seems to be that it was bacterial in nature and that she got antibiotics initially to stop it.
