Criminal Charges from Pet Food Recall

The federal indictment...called for fines and jail time...for the owners of the importing company, ChemNutra, which is based in Las Vegas....ChemNutra and its owners, a married couple, Sally Qing Miller and Stephen S. Miller, knew that the shipment was mislabeled in a way that would allow it to leave China without testing...and the Millers did not disclose the mislabeling to pet food makers...The government cited e-mail messages sent or received by the Millers in 2006 in which the proper codes for wheat gluten and other proteins were discussed...In addition to accusing the Millers of helping the Chinese companies distribute tainted food, the indictment said the couple defrauded customers, the pet food makers.

One point that makes me so furious is that it is repported in the indictment that on Jan 5, 2007 that there was and email to ChemNutra from a pet food company complaining that the wheat gluten had too high a moisture content----can you imagine how many of our beloved pets would have been saved---to know the product was not inspected and then to have complaints about it should have been a rather large red flag!! I know in my case if is highly likely that neither cat would have gotten sick! :yell: This is what happens when simple rules are not followed and cheating occurs----it affects so many others like a domino falling!

Still have to convict them of these charges before they can be sentenced....

It will be something but it won't bring anyone's pet back...

It's unbelievable that these people in their own greed perpetrated this cover up. They deserve to lose everything. I hope the only jobs they can ever get is cleaning portable toilets.

Duffy's CRF is from Royal Canin's tainted rice not the wheat gluten from Menu

I couldn't agree more!! I have been tempted to email the picture of Smudge I have when she was early on in her recovery---I don't know if I posted it here already---consumer affairs had posted it back in Oct to give this whole recall disaster "a face". I know back with the Diamond recall I wasn't following it and was ignorant to it as my pup then (Barkley) did not eat that product. So in a way I feel that alot of pet parents may not be following this horror story either---I think that is why I want to yell from the rooftops----- as I saw how quickly a happy little home with a sick pup and two healthy cats can turn into a furry 4-legged 9-11. My heart breaks for those that had it worse. The domino effect is still being felt---it's an emotional, physical and financial disaster for ALL those affected!
