Hubby has invited friends over for the super bowl. I decided to make a nacho plate for them...problem is, the reciepe doesn't say how long to bake it for and the picture shows the topping is baked. What do you think???

Here's the reciepe:

1 can old el paso refried bean
2 cups sour cream
1 cup chunky salsa
1 pouch taco seasonning
1.5 cheddar chese (shredded
2 cut tomatoes

spead refried beans over the bottom of a 9 inch round glass dish
In a small bowl, stir together sourc crea,., sala and seasonig mix until
blended. Speared over bean layer. Spinkle chesese, tomatoes, onions and olives (if using) over cream layer. Serve with tortilla chips for dipping

no longer than 5 minutes....and the sour cream goes after the cheese is melted. I don't know why they tell you to put it in before.

wait let me rethink that... HOW much cheese is it?? and is it going in oven or microwave?? and at what temperature??

in microwave...i usually put it in for 2 minutes and then see if it's melted then put 2 more if it's not

the oven i think 4-5 minutes?? could go to 10 but i'd watch it constantly

Jjorgi, it doesn't say anything...which is so annoying. It doesn't say how long or what temparture.

I was thinking 250 for 5 minutes in the oven. I found a similar reciepe but 25 minutes doesn't make any sense

Ingredients
1 (16-ounce) can refried beans
1 (1-1/4-ounce) package taco seasoning
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1 (12-ounce) can SPAMŪ Classic, cubed
1 (15-ounce) can HORMELŪ Chili No Beans
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 cup sour cream
Sliced ripe olives
CHI-CHI'SŪ Salsa
Tortilla Chips

Heat oven to 350°F. In small bowl, combine refried beans and taco seasoning. Spread mixture on bottom of 12-inch pizza pan. Layer green onions, SPAMŪ, chili and cheeses in pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until hot and cheeses are melted. Spread sour cream over top. Sprinkle with olives. Serve with salsa and tortilla chips.

ok try 250 for 5 mins but be very careful because it melts really fast.

Do you think the sour cream should go after?

jiorji
February 3rd, 2008, 02:41 PM
yeah i do

i usually put the chips, then the other stuff on top and then the cheese and then when it's melted put the cream.

That's what I think too, but the chips on the bottom and pile the stuff on top of them. The recipe says the chips should go on the side.

If I put the chips on the bottom of the dish, should I spray the dish first?

I have one of those dishes...what do you do?

Put the chips at the bottom, the beans on top of the chips, salsa and the seasoning; then the cheese? After it bakes, you put the sour cream on top???

Well this is how I do my nachos

I brown my meat and drain.I put in the taco seasoning.

I lay the chips on the bottom, sprinkle the meat, sprinkle the green onions and tomatoes and grated cheese.More chips on top,do another layer of meat,gr onions, tomato, cheese.Another layer of chips, and final layer of the rest.

Put it in the oven at about 250 for about 20-25 min.I cover with some foil.I do a peek to see how the cheese is doing.

Then I have a bowl of sour cream and a bowl of salsa.:)

They turned out ok, next time I will be better prepared.

I was told by one of the guys, that HIS wife makes excellent nachos...and started telling me how to she does it.

I told him, if his wife makes excellent nachos she should have came over and made them.:D

I am sure they weren't as excellent as his wife's but he ate the most. :thumbs up

I have an easy recipe that I made tonight.

I make some hamburger and mix a package of taco seasoning in it.
Then spread some restaurant style nachos on a plate. On top of that goes the hamburger meat, refried beans, nacho cheese from a jar. I heat the refried beans and cheese in the microwave. I then top it off with a few dollops of sour cream and sliced shallots.

It was ok...but not excellent.

BUT Maggie my dog went crazy to have some!! She never hangs out at the table, pesters people for food or tries to steal from plates when them down on the coffee table

Tonight, she was a real pain when the nachos were out.

She helped herself to some salsa sauce from a bowl, I hope it doesn't give her an upset stomach :frustrated:
