Sadie is facinated with Bee's she chases them, watches them forever and a day. This one particular bee was a big bumble boy who kept buzzing around her for a long time. Unfortunately he's not in the shot, but she is watching him!

She waits at the window for Tanner her boyfriend (a two year old Great Dane)
They absolutely adore one another, if there was such a thing as puppy love these two have it!
I PROMISE pics of them together really soon! :D

Luba,she's so adorable...kiss,kiss to Sadie :D
My cats are also chasing bumble-bees,flies and anything else that moves.
Yesterday we opened the patio umbrella and a bee was busy building a nest,I hated to do it,but it had to be destroyed, cannot have a bees-nest over the table,we would not get many guests :D
Today I also saw my first Hummingbird of the year,OMG he was absolutely beautiful,I got soooo excited!!
Oh well,it's the little things,right :p

OMG, hummers are my thing. Here in Calif. we have them year round. In my area, I get Annas and sometimes, Black Chin hummers. This is a pix of a little female Annas sitting on my finger.
June 11th, 2004, 10:21 PM
Glasslass, everything in my garden is planted for hummers and butterflies and I have birdfeeders, birdbaths etc....You are lucky,I only see the odd Hummingbird, this one had a red throat, greyish wings and greeny body, probably redthroated something, right?
In California of course you would not know how it feels, after a long dreary winter,to see things bloom and come alive, watching different birds return,I'm on an absolute high when I discover a new bird or something as uncommon in my garden,as a hummingbird.Maybe he'll be back,I just changed the sugary stuff in the feeder...got to keep my eyes peeled and my bifocals on :D
Very nice pic by the way!!!
June 11th, 2004, 10:37 PM
Ohhhh you are so lucky glasslass thats an amazing picture (envy envy envy)
I'm all green now :D
I love it, if you have any more pics me and Anita would love to see em!
We're realy birdy lol lmao

I wish I had more! That was a 1-time thrill! I was at a friend's home who had the camera all mounted and ready. Then he told me what to do when the hummer began to approach the feeder. And it worked!!! I could just feel her little feet and she was completely at ease. I was on a high for a week! :D :D :D :D The male Annas have a dark head and throat that glows ruby red in the sunlight. The Black Chin also has a narrow edge of purple below the dark section of the throat. I keep a feeder also and planted trumpet flowers. My cat leaves them alone. She watches them but evidently realizes she can't get them. :D

Yes,the cat phenomena is strange,I was just sitting there admiring my garden, when this little thing dove for my flowers,I thought it was a butterfly first. The cats(3)would normally go for any butterfly but did not budge for the hummingbird, not that I would let them!!!
Vinnie my youngest cat caught a redwinged Blackbird a couple of days ago,but we rescued it and it flew off,no damage done.
Since I am out with the cats all the time,I keep an eye on them try to make sure they don't catch any birds or any big butterflies.
And Luba is right,I am a bird-nut or I should say,a nut in general :D
June 12th, 2004, 05:04 PM
charlie has not eaten a bee since, stupid sometimes, ahhh, boy did her mouth swell though, vet laughed at her :p .
glassy that is a smart cat, well at least one that is happy with the truth, he/she will never get them and good to see cat accepts that lol :D
wow hummingbirds, we dont get them down here, fantastic little things though. isnt it amazing that something so small can survive!! oh and that is a fantastic pic, you are lucky to have that experience. :D
June 12th, 2004, 06:32 PM

June 12th, 2004, 11:48 PM
Ladies I'm sorry I'm a bad bad bad mommie
Sadie and Tanner have been going steady for almost three months now!
He is very protective of her but not controlling and she is playful but not flirty with the other boys she meets ;) If I think she's getting just a little too friendly all I have to say is..."hey missy what do you think Tanner will say about this" and she smartens right up I tell ya!
I will put pics up of them very soon, I have forgotten so many times to take the camera with me but I've been more diligent now :D You'll love Tanner he's such a sweetie!
June 13th, 2004, 05:24 PM
nope, sadly no hummers, i have seen them on tv and i think they are amazing, the way they stay in one place while feeding in the air, just amazing. our smallest birds are our honey eaters and fairy wren, both which come in at around 10-15cm, hummers are smaller than that arent they??. we do get alot of migratory species but nothing like the hummers :(
and sadie, a boyfriend , oh my she really is growing up  :p
June 13th, 2004, 05:49 PM
Luba   .....3 months now?......"shakes my head"
Do I have to come down there and have a talk with you,Sadie and Tanner?
June 13th, 2004, 05:59 PM
yes i agree with mona, a good talking to is what is needed, sheesh  and if they are going steady i hope he has given her a puppy toy or bone as a symbol of his devotion, sadie is not a cheap gal and the boys had better learn this, i shake my head too, lol, oh sadie :D :p :D
June 13th, 2004, 06:08 PM
Well holy crap Tanner hasn't offered her anything but big wet slobbery goober kisses and hugs!
I wonder what he's holding back on!!
June 13th, 2004, 06:32 PM
LMFAO @ mel....... :D
Well he better be holding back.I mean untill Miss Sadie is of age...Which is another 6 months...... :p
June 13th, 2004, 06:34 PM

June 13th, 2004, 06:36 PM
As long as it's just that, and Tanner isn't leading Sadie on......I don't want her to have a broken heart...... :(
June 13th, 2004, 06:52 PM
Boyfriend pics would be ADORABLE!!!! :)
Glasslass how in the world did you get a hummingbird to land on your finger???
That is so neat!!! I've only seen 2 so far this year at our house but its been raining so much I'm starting to look at projects of an ark!!! :p
June 13th, 2004, 07:29 PM
Chany, if you get the plans for an Ark let me know lol
June 13th, 2004, 07:52 PM
I want to see pictures of you loading the animals into the ark! All neutered of course! Or, is that defeating the purpose! :D
Actually, it was pretty easy. They're greedy little things. Stand right below the feeder with your finger near it. About 2 feet below it. When the hummer comes in, she'll stop to look you over. Stand perfectly still. She'll move in a little closer. When she's coming closer, gradually move your finger closer to the feeder. Stop when she stops; move closer when she does. Time it to arrive at the feeder at the same time. Move your finger up under her as she begins drinking. Her little feet will drop right down onto your finger. I tried to move my finger down a couple inches and she stayed up drinking at the feeder. When I moved it back up, her feet dropped down again. My friend says only the females are laid back enough to do this. The males will try to drive you away. This friend was a bachelor at the time and didn't have any other flowers in his backyard to distract the hummer. Now he's married and he and his wife rescue cats. I don't think he has a feeder any more.
