Chasing cars . . . . . before cabin fever settles in

Well, it's minus 31 C with a wind chill of minus 47 C this morning in Calgary and cabin fever will undoubtedly settle in for Abby & Keeper through the next week.

Knowing the foul weather was approaching, we trundled off for a walk along Chain Lakes in southwestern Alberta on Saturday.

Below, chasing cars across a frozen lake through granular snow blowing across sheer ice in a heavy wind . . . . . all part of the adventure for Abby & Keeper. We had passed some people at the dam where we normally start, sitting by their vehicles fishing. We've rarely seen more than an occasional passing boat on our walks at this place so imagine my surprise in a howling wind to suddenly see those same two vehicles magically appear near us, a dog barking in the back of one of them. Sure enough, Abby and Keeper were off like a shot and the chase was on, in spite of Rick's protestations from the sidelines.

It was a somewhat comical pursuit, slipping and falling on bare patches of ice, but relentless nonetheless.

At last, Abby and Keeper gave up and returned, the scene here as they run across the ice, the grains of snow polishing it in the heavy wind.

below, slippery, slippery, slippery . . . . . . and frozen to the bottom in this spot.

Below, the tracks of the beast that came before us . . . .

Below, Keeper contemplates the art of nature . . . . or maybe she thinks there is a mouse under the drift.

Below, Keeper finds a prize, a fairly fresh but well-munched deer leg. I made her drop it before she could get into the vehicle.

Below, in spite of today's cold weather, we spend a lot of time in the winter sitting out on the deck, Carol here tucking away Polly with Abby watching the sunset.

You need to make it a rule to post pics every Monday morning.:D
My dogs find bird legs that the hawks leave behind.....little bird legs, they'd be so proud of themselves if they found a deer leg.
I'd be so grossed out taking it away from them.

Polly looks like she's in heaven. What wonderful pictures.

I also love sitting out in the cold weather, of course if you're nicely bundled up.

Just now getting cabin fever? I've had it since before Xmas!

Have you seen the commercial for winter travel to warm places and all the people in the commercial are bawling? That's basically what I feel from December to March.
