Hi everyone.
This is a great board so I know someone has some advice for me.
When I adopted my 9 year old bichon frise from the Humane Society two months ago, I was told he had arthritis in his knees. Until last week, I saw no evidence of such. The Humane Society gave me a 2 week supply of Recovery SA at the time of adoption but I wasn't sure at the time what its purpose was. I gave it to him until the bottle ran out.
When I took my dog to the vet a few weeks after adoption (for a routine checkup), I showed him the empty bottle of Recovery SA and asked if I should get a refill. He said that it wasn't necessary and so I stopped giving it to my dog.
Now my dog is so sore, he yelps if he rolls over and he needs help getting off the bed or climbing stairs. I took him to the vet for an exam and pain relief, but because of his stomach issues, she was reluctant to give him conventional medicine as there is a risk of stomach bleeding. She gave me Sasha's Blend and he's been on the half dose for 3 days.
He's still so sore and it hurts me to see him suffering. Is there anything I can give him until Sasha's Blend "kicks in" as I've been told it could take up to 2 weeks to work? I'm also beginning to wonder if the Recovery SA was working and if I should have gone back on that instead. Problem is, I can't get in touch with the Humane Society (they've been ignoring my phone calls for weeks) to get a refill and no one in my neighbourhood has ever heard of it.
Thanks
Cheryl.
