CyndyB January 24th, 2008, 09:43 PM Sorry....new here...answered another thread and then thought I should make it a new one...
I'm wondering if ScottieDog (back in November) has heard more about her baby's condition by now. Our 8 year old wheaten Scottie, Gus, is at the vet's recovering from the same thing-emergency surgery to removed this ugly, enormous tumor (and the spleen). It will be biopsied, of course, and they told us that it was "encapsulated" which is supposedly good. It hopefully means it didn't spread anywhere else. They also said his liver looked really good. I, however, did the dumb human thing and got searching online; found about Hemangiosarcoma, so of course now have myself very worried. We lost our first Scottie, Max, to bladder cancer last August after a year and a half battle with it. Scotties are so tough and so brave, and have so darn many things hitting them!! Anyway, I found great comfort with a TCC site when Max was sick, so I naturally turned to your site tonight. Please say a prayer or two for our GusGus. Thanks, and hug your babies!!!
hazelrunpack January 24th, 2008, 09:48 PM Prayers, good thoughts, and loads of :fingerscr and crossed :pawprint:s here for GusGus!
There is also a thing called hemangioma--which is a benign condition and generally the surgical removal of the tumor fixes the problem for good. So we'll hold out hope that that's what your Scottie has! :goodvibes:
Please keep us posted with updates! :grouphug:

I think encapsulated means like in an envelope (I'm french and do not understand 100% those terms :o) but if so , it won't have spread. I'm so sorry about Max  and good luck to GusGus :fingerscr
Luba January 24th, 2008, 10:06 PM Oh I will most definitely keep prayers and warm thoughts coming.
You must call him Gus Gus after the cute little tubby mouse in Cinderella.
CyndyB January 25th, 2008, 10:12 PM Thank you, folks, for your kind words and encouragement.
Gus is home and resting comfortably. Poor guy, they had to cut him "stem to stern", so there will be some serious healing taking place.
Luba, I just had to reply to your post. "Gus" is actually his nickname - for Angus McRae. Thus, Gus McRae, Robert Duvall's character in Lonesome Dove. My husband is a huge western fan, plus of course Angus is a Scottish name. However, our guy is definitely a Gus - more rough and tumble westerner than proper Scotsman!!
GusGus is actually my girlfriend's nickname for him, and I've picked it up when loving up on him....the irony is that while never giving a thought to the fat little mouse in Cinderella, it can fit cause Gus has always been a big boy! Of course, his belly is looking pretty trim with that nasty old tumor out of it!! :yuck:
Anyway, we're glad to have him home, we're broke, and we're pretty exhaused from the week's events. But we're trying to remain hopeful about the biopsy results, and will post here when we get them. Thanks again, ya'll!
pbpatti January 25th, 2008, 10:17 PM :pray:and an:angel2:to look over GusGus while he recovers pbp
hazelrunpack January 25th, 2008, 10:27 PM I'm glad he's home :grouphug:
:goodvibes: and :fingerscr for a good path report!
Luba January 25th, 2008, 11:05 PM Thanks for the update, I am happy your Gus is at home with you now. That's quite the name for your little fella. We're waiting with you for the results of the tests and we're right here for you one way or the other.
Give your GusGus a big hug from all of us and wish him sweet dreams at home with your family. :sleepy:
Frenchy January 25th, 2008, 11:16 PM Good luck with the results :fingerscr :goodvibes:

CyndyB January 31st, 2008, 10:27 PM I wanted to share the wonderful news we received today - - Gus' nasty ole tumor was NOT cancerous!! We are so very grateful, and I swear he must know because he's had more energy today!!
Thanks to everyone for their kind words of support. I always said that dog lovers are the best, and you've proved it!! :goodvibes:
We can now enjoy watching Gus and our new little rescue girl Maisie get to know each other. She's really been wanting to play with him....but she's also climbed in the crate with him and taken naps too. Very sweet...
badger January 31st, 2008, 10:38 PM Fantastic news! Did the vet say what it was? 5.5 pounds!
Now we need a picture of the venerable Gus and his new friend. We don't care about his (temporary) appearance.
Frenchy January 31st, 2008, 11:35 PM I'm so happy for you and Gus ! :thumbs up
I second the request for pictures :D
