MISSING SHELTIE - 1 YEAR OLD - Toronto

missingSheltie
June 9th, 2004, 07:42 PM
Please help.... My family and I are devistated as we recently had company over, and they brought their little sheltie. He is Brown/white, and has white boot like legs, which is why they call her "socks". She was the runt of the litter so she is much smaller than the average sheltie. For those who do not know what a sheltie is, think of a mini Lassie.

In any event, while they were visiting the dog was in my backyard playing with my four dogs, when I went to the car, socks darted out and down the street. I ran after her and called her name, but she kept going. By the time I got into my car and chased after her, she was no were to be seen. She has been missing since Sunday Night, June 7th 2004. It's bad enough to have your own pet missing, you can imagine how I feel having lost someone else's dog. Especially when the owner is a close friend to the family, and she bought the dog last year after her husband past away.

Please help!! I need all the help I can get. The Dog went missing in the Kingston Road and Midland area, in Scarborough. We have been combing the neighborhood for hours every day, and we have yet to have one phone call from all the posters.

Please call if you have any information or if you have even seen this dog...There will be of course a reward!!

Email me at Mike_ritchie88@hotmail.com
And thanks for taking the time to read this.

I am literally five minutes from you I'll help look and can you pls post a picture of your dog!!

BTW there is a shelter on O'Connor that people SELL strays to it's a dump and I can't stand them they dont check to see if a dog is owned by anyone before they sell it.

I actually know of someone who was finding strays and selling them there but I couldn't prove it...this woman tried to steal my dog off my own front lawn one day.

Question, does your dog go to the bluffs parks? What areas is your sheltie familiar with and last question...

Do you go to the park at the top of the bluffs with your dogs? I may have seen you there a few times with my Collie Sadie.

Hugs I'll be on the prowl and got my eye open
give me a picture.

GREAT idea Heather!!!

Also I'd give photo flyers to vets in the area

MAKe up all kinds of flyers and post them in vets office and pet stores drug stores and the no frills store near you

Also say on the flyer that the dog needs medication urgently
Its not true but it helps!!

thanks golden, and Luba your help is greatly appreciated.

The dog is microchipped. All the vets in the area know about it, and I have been to Scarborough, and Toronto animal shelters every day...but she is not fixed from what I was told, and a topper----> she is in heat!

thanks again, and I just hope we find her quick.

OH CRUD she's in heat and not fixed

OMG OMG OMG

When they get her back they better spay her immediately! She probably ran to the scent of a male and may already be impregnated! DARNIT!!

See why they need to be spayed oh dear oh dear! This is so upsetting.

I'll wait the pics and phone numbers, you can pm them or email them to me.

I dont care who has this number 416-285-5937 I just want to get this dog back. I just feel terrible, and I know it's my fault, so I'm trying to do everything. I talked to my vet, and he told me that if it is a larger dog that "knocks her up", she will have health problems.

Great....more to look forward too. But I just want to get her back first, then worry about the rest later... I will post photos probably tommorrow when I scan them off of her.

thanks again

Luba

June 10th, 2004, 09:00 PM
Picture yet? It would help so much.

How'd you get a 285 exchange at KR and Midland
Thats a Lawrence / Ellesmere area exchange

When I moved I couldn't use my old number. How'd you score that?

Luba
June 10th, 2004, 10:37 PM
Oh I forgot to ask, would you email me and attach a copy of the flyer you're putting up for distribution. I'll print off a few and post them when I walk Sadie and go on outings.

Have you had any calls yet? Anything / Anyone see her yet?

missingSheltie
June 11th, 2004, 12:45 PM
here is a pic of socks

Luba
June 11th, 2004, 01:20 PM
Are you going to send me the flyer so I can help distribute?

Where HAVE you put flyers up so I can avoid those places and save time?

BTW who told you she was the runt of the litter and small...she's actually quite tall in sheltie stance IMHO. She's about standard size.

Has the breeder been notified, if she's got a tattoo then they may be called.

missingSheltie
June 11th, 2004, 01:52 PM
the picture really doesn't do her justice. She is actually quite small. I have already put up signs all along kingston road from Midland down to Vic park. And also along kennedy and midland to eglinton. I will send you the flyer, as soon as i finish typing, and thanks again for all your help..

Haven't even got a call yet :(

She has a tatoo, and the breader has been called...so hopefully something comes up.

thanks again!

Luba
June 11th, 2004, 02:13 PM
Well you've covered some good territory!

I'll help as much as I can. Great you notified the breeder.

You wanna post contact information for the owners as well?

She is a very very pretty dog! :D

If the dogs found she has to be returned to her owners legally. If for instance she turns up at the shelter they have to pay a fee to get her out, show identification and prove that its their dog.

If you didnt post the pics on the east side of KR I can do that when I'm out with Sadie on a walk no problem :D

I'll wait for the flyer and print a few off, okay!! :D

Luba

I didn't get the flyer yet
I will send you the flyer, as soon as i finish typing, and thanks again for all your help..
Good luck finding Socks

June 13th, 2004, 02:10 PM
The file is to big to send to a hotmail acct. Do you have any other accts?
We received one phone call so far, letting us know that socks was seen on Chine Drive last monday...other than that...nothing. He could be anywhere around the bluffs area..

Luba
June 13th, 2004, 02:41 PM
So Socks is a girl or boy?

A dog can travel far, may not be anywhere in the neighbourhood, especially if someone pics him/her up.

Cut and paste the information from the flyer then just attach the pic separately, I can figure it all out from there ;)

Please supply the owners contact information as well.

HI

I was just out in that area doing a search for the dog and saw your posters you put up recently. You did a good job!!

If Socks started to head north, then if I were you I would call the rail companies. There are rail tracks in this area! IF and I hope to God not, she was hit by a train they may find her remains on the track (this happened to my neighbour shortly ago)

I noticed the posters say she is *8* months old, still a pup, not even a year yet. So sad!

Here is where you may want to call regarding the rail company
You may be redirected but ask for who you should talk to about a dog that may have been on the tracks. I HOPE this isnt' the case but the tracks are right there and you never know.
Here are the numbers I found.

VIA Rail Canada Inc
(905) 685-9772

Go Transit Guildwood
4105 Kingston Road, Scarborough, ON M1E2M3
(416) 724-6209

CN Rail
(807) 227-2350

By the way if you can't email the flyer to me, may I take one down and copy it at home??

Let me know!

Luba, you are a wealth of helpful information!!

Hope this poor pup gets found.

chico2
June 13th, 2004, 07:15 PM
Yes Luba,as usual you certainly are. It's so sad thinking of this pretty pup out there somewhere.Maybe someone has taken her in....
Hopefully she stayed away from the tracks :(
If I saw a dog running around on her own,I would take her for sure and call someone, hopefully someone will do that for her.But it's been a while, she must be so hungry and frightened, poor little girl.
She could even be far away, maybe a more widespread search in shelters would be a good idea.

missingSheltie
June 15th, 2004, 08:58 AM
It's a girl, and yes she is only 8 months. I just sent the emails, 2 different files, one for the pic, and the other for the .doc.

Thanks again everyone for your support, and help especailly to you Luba. I will be calling GO transit etc, today. But I am very hesitant too, as I do not want to hear the worst, if you know what I mean.
Still no phone calls yet, but were still optomistic.

Thanks again everyone!!

Luba
June 15th, 2004, 01:01 PM
Call the rail companies! Trust me you'd rather know then keep looking.
Sometimes they have 'sightings' of the dogs as well running on the tracks and things.

I truly hope this has a positive ending.

I'll check my email and post them in my area. Was gonna steal one of your flyers but thought twice lmao!

Keep hoping.

I went through the fields with Sadie and the cemetery nearby that goes from Kingston to St. Clair.

What you should do is organize a search and start to cover some of the wooded area. Be careful, wear long pants lots of skeeters in there and people dump junk and stuff.

There's hope, I just heard of story of a little 10 lb dog that survived being on the streets for months!! :D
