Active Manuka Honeypitgrrl January 19th, 2008, 02:39 PM Anyone ever try this? Comments? Thoughts? Ever even heard of it? http://www.natural-animal-care-products.com/Active-Manuka-Honey.htm luckypenny January 19th, 2008, 03:02 PM Although we do use honey frequently in our household, I've never tried this particular one. I think the claims they make can be attributed to all high-quality unpasteurized honey  . Here's a site that explains the health benefits and offers a nutritional profile. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=96 Thought I'd add, I'm a little concerned about the statement on the Manuka website regarding treating open wounds and infections with it. I'd hate to see someone replace a veterinary consult with honey for something so severe. I know, it's common sense...but I think I've seen it all. pitgrrl January 19th, 2008, 03:31 PM I'm interested in it particularly in terms of acid reflux in one of my dogs, but I did read (and I wish I could find it again) and article about this particular honey being studied for use in antibiotic resistant bacteria, as it seems to have pretty powerful antibacterial properties. Point taken though, I can just imagine someone deciding not to go get some massive wound treated and instead smearing it with honey and hoping for the best :rolleyes: luckypenny January 19th, 2008, 04:04 PM I found this interesting article http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3787867.stm . Working in his Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato, in the central North Island, biochemist Professor Peter Molan has identified one particular type of honey with extraordinary healing qualities. I'll do a more thorough search on this Biochemist and any of his research findings when I have a little more time. Just what I need, another reason to be glued to the computer :D. pitgrrl January 20th, 2008, 09:10 AM LuckyPenny, do you feed raw honey to your dogs, or just use it topically? ....and thank you for the links. |
