My 11 year old yorkie has been having mouth issues for the past several years. She has has some many dentals and teeth pulled. She started to get canker sores within the past 2 years and it is usually because a tooth has irritated her inner jaw. The vet usually puts her on an antibiotic then pulls that tooth. I have asked him to pull as many as he can but he normally only pulls the necessary ones at that moment. I want to tell him to just pull ALL of them. What complications would I expect with a completely toothless dog?

I have no personal experience but knew an ex-boyfriends mother who had two yorkies that had no teeth (one had a few uppers left, the other none at all), they ate wet food and I think there were some tongue issues, but not sure... I know they lived a good number of years with no teeth, and did well though. Best of luck with your little one! :goodvibes:

My pom Annie :rip:had dental isues her entire life and I also questioned having the remaining few pulled. My vet said the only drawback to having that done is that the tongue will have nothing to hold it in the mouth and will hang out. If it meant no more pain, rotten breath and major expenses then I would have gone for it but unfortunately her heart couldn't have withstood the surgery.
