Boston Terrier's allergic reaction - hives/swelling

Our 8mo Boston Terrier got hives along his back and swelled around his mouth and eyes. We took him into the vet and they gave him shots to help. He is fine now, but we are trying to figure out what gave him the allergic reaction.

The only new things in his environment we can think of would be a SudaCare menthol plug-in that is at his height level and a new brand of rawhide 'donut' we got a few days prior to the reaction. Are either of these likely sources of the allergic reaction? We are worried it'll happen again.

Thanks,

Ben

This type of allergic reaction can be caused by many things. The best thing to do is keep some Benedryl (or store brand equivalent) on hand. Make sure it only has the ingredient Diphenhydramine in it.

The dosage would be from 1/2 mg to 2 mg per pound every 8 hours. Start with the lowest dosage and increase if necessary but only up to the 2 mg maximum per lb. :pawprint:
