I began working with Duke at this years first snow fall a month ago working on the fundamentals of sledding/skijoring. Due to warm weather however we were forced to put everything to a halt waiting for the snow to return.
The last few days we did a few short runs a day and he finally seems to be catching on.
Were still focusing on reinforcing the concept of pulling at this point and won't be moving on to more control commands like on bay (leave it, move forward) or turns (gee and haw) until the fundamentals are 100% down.
Having never been dog sledding before I was surprised how fast he can run while pulling, in addition he seems to love it and yips at the beginning of must runs. Over the holidays I had a great chance at some dog education to family members whose kids took a ride behind Duke.:)
These two videos are both of short runs as rising temperatures today were causing the snow to melt causing alot of cling making it difficult to pull in.
Enjoy
Run 1 (In this vid a moving decoy is being used to entice pursuit and movement. Another note during the last few second we hit a rough patch and i bounced off as duke continued to run on with the sled)

Run 2 (where as in this vid a moving decoy is used only in the first few seconds before throwing a ball which is used to phase out dependancy on any one piticular lure)

and lastly one tired puppy and happy owner
