my dog is not acting right?

December 22nd, 2007, 09:32 PM
Hello, I am new to this site. I have a problem with my dog and the vet is not taking calls today. So maybe someone can help me?
Last night I called my dog to come eat when I got home and noticed she was not acting right, I got her in my house to see if I could find out what and how she was acting. She will wag her tail alittle when I call her to come to me but she will stand there and look at me, her head down alittle turns her head away when I try to put food to her mouth and will not drink her water. I had to force her teeth apart to put water in her mouth to see if she would swollow it. she did swollow. I done a whole body check on her and found nothing wrong.
She just went to her water bowl put her nose in the water (like shes not sure to drink it) then it took her alittle time to drink some. She has come over to me standing here with her head down, I'm talking to her and she is standing like here tail end is hurt. not sure what to do? she walks fine, slow, but no limp, if any one has any ideas please let me know.

Was she outdoors the whole time you were at work? I'm supposing anything could have happened to her but only a vet would be able to tell for sure. Are there no other vets in your area that you can call for an emergency appointment?

yes, she was outside, she is a outside dog, we live out in the country on ten acres of land. The other vet that I know told me it would be 100.00 deposit for me to bring her in on weekend hours something I dont have right now so close to christmas. where with the other vet I have an account with.
She has drank some more water and has just now throw every bit of it back up. has some brown stuff mixed in with it.

I am really sorry to hear about your dog but you have to get her to the vet NOW. Since she has been outside all day unsupervised "anything" could have happened. Good luck and please keep us posted. :fingerscr :goodvibes:

The brown stuff could be blood. I'd be really concerned. Anything could have happened to her. Is there any way you could borrow 100$ or put it on credit until after the holidays. I mean, this could be serious, and I don't want to sound disrespectful, but...isn't she worth the extra $$ ?

I thank ya'll for your replies, I live in a small town and no one has the money, believe me I have asked all my friends and family no one has it to loan I even told the vet where I worked and that I get paid this coming thursday would not help me out. That's way I found this site to see if anyone would know what I could do or if someone knows what it could be. I do have some antibotics if it could be a UTI?

I don't think lack of appetite and vomiting brown stuff is related to UTI. Unfortunately we are not vets here and cannot possibly tell you what's wrong with your dog  . PLEASE try to get her to a vet asap. :fingerscr Good luck .

Call everywhere and tell them how worried you are. I'd like to give that vet a piece of my ming. The dog is suffering. PLEASE get her somewhere. I will pray for you.:pray::pray:

There has to be another vet you can call. Your dog may have eaten anything. I have a friend whose dog bit a toad a couple of years ago, and it was acting a little like you said.

Your dog might have some poisoning from something like that. I don't want to scare you, but you really should take her to a vet. I can't believe they won't work with you. Is there a shelter you can go to that might be a little more helpful?

Yes,please call a shelter or the SPCA or another vet. At Christmastime, someone has GOT to help.:pray::pray: Shame on that vet who KNOWS an animal is suffering.

You should apply for a credit card for just such emergencies and find a vet with 24 hr. emerg. service.
